How Daylight Savings Time Contributes to Weight Gain

Leaping forward isn't always a good thing - such as during Daylight Savings Time. It's something that almost everyone dreads and this so-called 'energy saving technique' is taxing on the body. Just look at what that jumbled-up hour can do to a body:

The body works best when it's placed on a schedule - particularly our eating times and sleeping times, commonly referred to as eating patterns and sleeping patterns. When a break in sleep impacts our ability to sleep, we call in the doctor. With all the magical sleeping potions and pills flooding the markets these days, a solution is close-by.

However, when our eating patterns are disrupted - a solution isn't so easy. Amid the leap in time associated with our spring time Daylight Savings Time, our eating pattern is suddenly torn to shreds. Upon waking, we're not quite hungry yet. We'll need another hour to reach that point. By the time that lunch arrives, we're already gnawed away two inches of our desk. In turn, this situation leads to:

- weight gain;

- stress due to clock-watching which leads to more weight gain;

- insufficient sleep which has been associated with weighty issues;

- ill health, which has also been associated with weighty issues.

The government has been seeking methods to deal with Americans and weight gain. Perhaps by ditching the Daylight Savings Time program, they could do just that. As to the presumption that Daylight Savings Time saves money, even that is currently in dispute.

Tips that may help you adjust to Daylight Savings Time:

  • Begin to wind down earlier in the evening to prepare your body for rest.
  • Keep a stash of low calorie snacks around for when a snack attack hits. Good choices are the old stand-by's such as raw carrots, celery, wheat crackers and those new 100-calorie snacks.
  • With more light available, make use of the great outdoors for FUN activities that will tone and strengthen your body.
  • Keep in mind that whenever we're irritable, we tend to seek comforting avenues to tame the inner savage beast, which too-commonly translates to comfort foods. They are cheap, require little effort & quickly do the job - if only temporary. The downside is that doing is a quick fix which often generates more irritability via weight gain.
