How your diet can survive Love Day

Featured Valentine's Day Dieting Tips

Oh no, it's stupid little cupid and he's here to shoot an arrow straight through my diet plan. How can a cupid be so cruel?

But he's in for a surprise because yes, you can enjoy Valentine's Day and not blow your weight loss plan.

We've got some snazzy tips that can assist and allow you to dodge the arrow.

Keep in mind that Valentine's Day is a day for romance.

There are more ways than just expensive candy-filled hearts to celebrate. Try flowers, perfume, or a small box of dark chocolates as the dark offers some heart-healthy benefits in comparison to the white and milk chocolates.

If you like the whipped chocolate candy - lucky you as it contains a bit fewer calories.

If you celebrate by dining out, try to make wise food choices.

Before ordering the triple-cheese enchiladas dipped in double queso, consider those luscious (and healthier) chicken fajitas.

The chicken fajitas make a healthier choice over the beef - but both are good solutions when Mexican dining. You get a platter of grilled vegetables that are awesome along with flour tortillas - straight from the Grain Group. Be careful with the dairy additions - specifically butter, sour cream and shredded cheese which can shred your weight loss plan in a flash.

If you're dining Italian style, look to the red sauces over the white as the white ones have a cream base which means they were prepared with cream - most of the time.

And cream is so fatty that the official American Food Pyramid refuses to allow it into the door of the pyramid. Scary, isn't it? Like a moment from Oz.

If you're dining at a pizza place, then opt for the cheese - and add a lot of vegetables.

Go with the thin crust over the thick and do be mindful of those garlic bread sticks which can stick to your cute little thighs when you aren't looking. Often, they are even faster than Cupid's loaded-calorie arrow.

Don't allow hunger to rule over your good health sense!  Dessert?  Strawberries, of course!  And yes, even ones dipped in DARK chocolate are great for topping off the meal.

Remember those dark chocolate health benefits which we made mention of above.

It is totally okay to enjoy a couple of Valentine treats.

Allow for them by planning ahead.

Remember, all rice cakes and no tasty treats makes Dieting Jane discontent.

Watch the alcoholic drinks.

These puppies are loaded in more ways than one. Just look what they did to poor Otis Campbell.

If you over-indulge, get right back on your fitness plan on the 15th.

Happy Valentine's Day! Enjoy your day and may it be filled with magic!
