Defining
Melatonin
A tiny gland in the brain known
as the pineal produces the hormone melatonin. Melatonin
is secreted in the dark moments of the day, triggered
by our natural Wake/Sleep Cycle. As melatonin
enters the bloodstream, the body beckons sleep. High
levels of melatonin remain in the blood throughout the
night, then disappear with the rising sun.
