Amount of Salt in the Daily Diet
How much salt per day should you eat? Governmental
guidelines recommend no more than one level teaspoon
per day.
Why is salt limited in the daily diet? Salt
effects blood pressure; people with heart and circulatory
problems are generally placed on a sodium-restricted
diet by their doctor. Take heed however of using
a salt substitute, particularly when a potassium problem
exists as salt substitutes contain quite a bit of potassium.
When in doubt always ask your doctor for their
recommendation.
