Lose Weight By Avoiding Soft Foods

Chewing plays an important part in the area of weight loss.  A little savvy dieting can go a long way to free those unwanted pounds....

If you would like to drop those unwanted pounds, try avoiding soft foods. Think about this.....

When a dieter dives into a bowl of ice cream, although it may taste heavenly to those bored taste buds, the chewing 'step' is completely left out of the digestive picture.  Shortly thereafter, the dieter may innocently seek out foods to satisfy the Chewing Urge.

- In general, most soft foods don't stick around to satisfy.

- Chewing delivers satisfaction which is one reason why liquid diets most always fail.

- Chewing sets the metabolism into motion.

- It takes longer to eat foods that require chewing than those foods that require little-to-no chewing. That's a big plus to a dieter. It allows the dieter more time to savor foods.

Many foods that have soft texture are plumped with calories such as the following softies: ice cream, pudding, cream, whipped topping, butter, margarines, oils, whole milk, cream-based soups and avocados.

However, we must point out that all of these foods can fit into a healthy diet plan and can reside in the Official Food Pyramid Groups.

On the other hand - although all of the above foods can be an important part of a healthy daily diet when limited and/or made diet-wise, because they do not require chewing, they are quickly eaten, leaving the dieter wishing for more.

And not all soft foods are loaded with calories, such as the following foods: cream of wheat, oatmeal, yogurt, brown rice, gelatin, broth-based soups low in sodium content, skim or low fat milk, cooked squash and most broiled fish.

But the fact remains that soft foods require little-to-no chewing - even the healthier soft foods.  By adding more foods to the diet that require chewing power, the dieter will feel more satisfied and less tempted by the urge to chew.
