Fast Food Salad Calories

Written by Sky Taylor, Diet Bites

Even Salads Can Be Destructive to Health

So you're on a new weight loss plan and you find yourself standing inside of a fast food restaurant gawking at the menu.

You see burgers, fries, items that get drowned in batter, oil and cheese and you wince. Isn't there anything on the menu that will fit into your diet plan?

Why oh why did your coworkers insist on coming here - just when you started your new plan?

And then your eyes drift towards another section of the menu and you suddenly relax. Salads! Yeah - those will work.

But which to avoid? Which are healthiest?

Fast Food Salads to Avoid While Dieting & Healthier Selections

Take note that the majority of the data below is based on the salad as served - without dressing or croutons - bacon bits and so forth. While the bacon bits, crackers and croutons will add minimal caloric values - the dressings are a totally different situation. For example, a visit to 'the ranch' at some fast food restaurants can cost almost 200 kcals per small packet.

Note that we didn't give props to some fast food restaurants - but they do have items on their menu that will better fit into a weight reduction plan - just not where salad choices are concerned.

Take Wendy's; the data is based on the full salad. They also offer half-salads which by the way, aren't half the energy values. The Baja Chili half-size item contains almost 500 kcals - and given the extreme amount of fatty acid content, even the smaller option is still too naughty to fit into a healthy diet.

Their Jr. Hamburger contains only 250 kcals, 10 total fat grams and 35 cholesterol mg's. It's a much healthier choice over their salad-line-up.

Other Nutritional Elements to Consider Before Final Choice

Take note that we based our choices on the kcal content.

While fatty acid content (lipids) as well as caloric values are important elements when choosing the healthiest foods, it's important to also look at other elements - such as the protein, dietary fiber, calcium and perhaps most importantly, the sodium content among these particular vitamins and minerals.
