Diet Roadblock: I Want to Eat More While Dieting

Written by Diet Bites

Looking to add more food into your diet without adding pounds?

Then you've landed at the right spot because Diet Bites is always on the prowl, searching for goodies with HIGH taste and LOW calories.

Our choices for foods lowest in calories that pack the most for your Diet Punch AND that make wonderful, light snacks include:

Fruit: We highly recommend that you try the frozen bags of fruit.

The 1 pound bags generally contain 150 to 210 calories for the entire bag!

A serving takes a long while to eat, and that's a big plus.

Allow the fruit to sit in your bowl for about 10 minutes, then sprinkle with Splenda or your favorite sugar substitute if you'd like more sweetness added. If you are still hungry, enjoy a second serving. Or a third. For about 50 calories per serving, it's a nice snack that can rescue a desperate dieter.

Dairy: All of the following foods are low in calories and will satisfy a rumbling stomach:

Skim milk plus 1 splash of imitation extract or vanilla extract plus 1/3 cup of frozen fruit blended to make a healthy diet smoothie.

One stick of string cheese (kids under five should never be given string cheese due to choking risks) can be eaten very slowly. The strings of cheese can be peeled away just a tiny bit at a time so that the snack lasts for awhile. Low fat varieties contain about 50 to 60 calories each.

A serving of reduced fat cottage cheese with pineapple tidbits makes a refreshing snack and it's one that you can feel good about eating. And that's the way that meal time and snacks should be; there shouldn't be any guilt to ruin the experience as well as the flavor and enjoyment of the foods and drinks that we eat.

One ounce of sliced cheese + 1/2 small apple is such a wise choice. Be sure to make the cheese selection of the reduced fat variety but if you must have full-blown, then do. The reduced fat cheeses are about 50 calories; the full-blown are generally 70 and upwards.

One single serving of fat free-sugar free yogurt is always a healthy snack that satisfies. You can even use it as a dip for your healthy dose of fresh vegetables.

One single serving of fat free-sugar free pudding. Yes - you can have pudding and still lose weight. In fact, you should be able to enjoy almost any food and still lose weight - and when you reach your goal weight, you can do the same. There are very few foods that are not contained within the Food Pyramid; three of those are butter, cream cheese and cream because they are so fatty they just can't fit through the door of the pyramid.

And common sense tells us to avoid other foods such as visible fats on animal proteins as well as wads of full-blown Mayo. Sometimes we just have to use our brain when dieting.

Next time, we'll share some of our favorite vegetable snacks.
