Dieting Tips for the Holidays & Seasonal Events

Diet Article: Tips to assist with your weight loss plan during the holidays.

How many times have you went on a diet plan just before the holidays and once they arrived you found yourself subject to temptation?

This is a very common occurrence with dieters making the holidays one of the worst times to lose weight. But these days - there appears to be a holiday at every corner. Just when you think you've outrun them - there they are; a bunny, leprechaun, boy with arrow, werewolf, vampire, turkey, patriotic flag or a man in a red suit is there with their paws outstretched, ready to take your hard-earned money.

At the beginning of the diet the individual starts out with only the best of intentions of losing those unhealthy pounds.  So it's all good at this point. The dieter is serious - they are dedicated. They are earnest and motivated to lose the weight.

But as we know, holiday tables are filled with so many tempting foods that are very difficult to resist even for the most dedicated dieter. When we have a full stomach it's quite easy to resist goodies, even delectable looking holiday goodies.

But once we have an empty stomach and we're suddenly hungry, the situation becomes an entirely different story.  When were hungry it's virtually impossible to resist all those goodies.

Before we know what has happened, we are sitting at the holiday table cramming in as much food and drink as possible and promising that will go on a diet after the holiday has ended.

Because there are so many holidays in the year there is actually no perfect time of the year to lose those unwanted pounds.

Let us take a look at Donna who is preparing to go on a diet plan just before the Easter holiday.

Donna planned for her diet quite well.  First he sat down and she made a list of the foods that tempted her the most.  She planned to avoid these foods while she was dieting because they had contributed to weight gain issues over the years.

She took great care in planning all of her meal plates during the first week of her weight loss plan.

She was aware Easter was on the following Sunday but she promised herself that she would stick to her planned menus.  She knew it would be hard to resist all the goodies that would be on the Easter table but she was determined to lose all of those unwanted pounds once and for all.

On Easter Sunday she woke up and attended church services, then she went to her parent's house to celebrate the Easter holiday.

Because she slept in, she was rushed earlier in the morning wasn't able to eat breakfast. Therefore, she was hungrier than she should have been when lunch arrived.

When she saw all the goodies that her parents had prepared for Easter Sunday celebration - she knew that she was in trouble; more pointedly she knew that her diet plan was in trouble.

How she going to possibly resist all the goodies sitting on her parent's table this fine Easter Sunday.

Even with all of her intricate planning Donna was unable to resist the roasted turkey, the chestnut stuffing, the cranberry sauce, the double fudge chocolate cake, the banana pudding, and the platter of cookies that her mother had made in the shape of cute little bunny rabbits.

In Summary

There is never a perfect time to lose weight. It's difficult and challenging enough as it is - but when holiday temptation enters the picture, it can make the situation doubly-difficult.

If you are thinking about going on a weight loss plan and a holiday is just around the corner, either plan wisely on how you will handle the event. Keep in mind that Donna proved unsuccessful and succumbed to temptation. You can learn from her experience and not make the same mistake by allowing your appetite take control of your weight loss plan.

Take note that most of the time the dieter will have more success in the area of weight loss by waiting until after the holidays than watching what they eat on the big day.
