THE DIET DECISION

Deciding to go onto a weight loss diet is one of the most important decisions you'll make in your lifetime.

Does anyone ever decide that they want to go on a diet when they're hungry? What about when they are happy? Or, when they're experiencing ultra success? Probably very few. When we are content and life is going our way - our troubles are often far away and very few in-between. And that is how the good life should be.

Being overweight is deeply connected to our emotional status. Sometimes a person may feel that if they lost weight, all their problems would be solved. But, such is life on the opposite end of the spectrum.

If you're having problems experiencing weight loss success, pause a moment to do a quick self-analysis. Think about your past diets.

When did you decide to commit to your diet? What triggered that desire?

More than likely, you weren't experiencing a side-splitting laugh at the time, and you were probably very full from too much merriment rather than hungry.

The vast majority of dieting decisions occur during such circumstances. An individual may have enjoyed a very rich meal, one that would put the Pilgrims and the Indians to shame. Then, it was off to the Diet Arena for several weeks of hard time. Hopefully, this scenario ended up with a fairytale ending (Mozzarella marries Hot Nacho and life is cool beans).

But if you are experiencing extended hurdles in your race to reach your weight goal, don't keep tripping over the jump-bar; try the following tips while keeping in mind that it is vital to your overall health to have a positive outlook - to seize the happiness of every moment of the day.

We can sit around and continually find things to gripe and moan about. We may have a headache and complain about such all day long, making everyone around us miserable. On the other hand, there is that individual - at times in their young adulthood that are preparing to undergo surgery for a brain tumor - one that could possibly cut their young life short.

We may complain about spilling sugar on the floor out of the sugar bowl while another individual falls on the kitchen floor, breaks a hip bone and spills a lot of blood in the process due to hitting other parts of their body on the sharp edges of the kitchen cabinets as they fell.

Fact is - there is always something to gripe, complain and moan about. We can become so wrapped up in our misery that it actually becomes a habit. We may start to complain about that simple, normal headache - then before we know what has happened, we are complaining about every tiny thing that impacts our body, from dealing with itchy eyes related to the elevated pollen count in the spring, to a drippy nose when winter arrives.

All in all, we have to think about how we want to be remembered after we leave this good earth. Do we want those around us to be miserable? Or to miss our smiles - our joy and how we enhanced the lives of others around us?

Just like dieting - it is a personal choice. As to complaining about being overweight - it's time to do something that will work effectively to lose those unhealthy pounds rather than molting and making others around us feel miserable about our weight. Just because an individual needs to lose weight doesn't mean that they can't embrace happiness. They should! Doing such can even have a positive impact on their weight.

Now let's get to those weight loss tips that we mentioned above:

1. When that old diet feeling hits you, sit down and think with a clear mind. Are you hungry? Have you just eaten a large meal? Are you temporarily frustrated over your weight? How far are you willing to carry your commitment to lose weight? Do you want to lose weight more than you want to eat that plate of spaghetti, enchiladas, cheeseburgers or cookies? If you do, then you are guaranteed weight loss success.

2. Make a firm commitment in your mind that you'll stick with your diet plan until you reach your weight goals. You realize this will take time, but it WILL happen. Failure will not be an option!

Even when the time comes (and it will) and you become famished and long to eat everything loaded in the kitchen pantry except that tall bottle of vinegar, make a promise to yourself that you'll refrain.

3. Develop a diet plan. Chart the course and don't sail off into the Bermuda Triangle which we all know is laced with smidgens of Smith & Wesson (pies & oil).

Keep in mind that your weight is just a record which is reflected on a set of bathroom scales; they impact your health and your life in a big way when the numbers are too high - but they are something that you can change for the good. Now if that doesn't make you smile....
