Halloween Dieting Tips - Holiday Dieting - Halloween Diet Tips

Can you pick out the healthier diet treat? Free Halloween Party Planner below...

Halloween is filled with so many wonderful goodies but some are a bit scary when it comes to calorie and fat content. What's a Good Dieter to do? We can't run away because every where we run, a treat is blocking our way.

Halloween treats at home, Halloween treats at the office, Halloween treats beneath our car seats. So rather than run from the fun, let's try joining the fun!

By making savvy diet choices, you can keep the numbers on your diet scale where you want them to be. Now let's play!

Out of the treats below, only 7 are lucky (which means they are healthier diet choices).  See if you can pick the healthier choices.

small caramel apple

handful of jelly beans

cotton candy

hot air popcorn

toasted marshmallows

chicken salad sandwich with light Mayo

  chili dog with mustard

candy corn

soda

celery sticks filled with light cream cheese

large pickle

diet soda

popcorn ball

nachos

string cheese

bubble gum

red hots

mixed nuts

1. Although the caramel apple is coated with rich and chewy goo, the apple counteracts the badness. Isn't that lovely to know?

2. When you're dieting, you can literally take a bath in hot air popcorn. It's one of the lowest calorie food items out there. And you don't have to choke it down anymore if you have the refrigerated no calorie butter spray in your fridge. Douse on a good bit while the popcorn is piping hot. Beware of Popcorn Monsters lurking nearby that will grab your bag and run.

3. The chicken salad sandwich prepared with light Mayo is packed with goodness so you can feel very good about that diet choice. Just don't start clucking or you might get thrown out of the party.

4. The celery stick filled with light cream cheese is a great diet choice. You're getting a bit of vegetable with your dairy. Try chopping up a bit of olives in your cream cheese before loading your celery stick. Olives have a bit of fat and a lot of sodium, but a little goes a long way. And black olives are great Halloween fun. Load a couple on your incisors and scare the kids or family pet.

5. Diet soda also makes a very calorie-wise choice and with the new concoctions on the market today, it's getting easier and easier to find good-tasting beverages.

6. String cheese is not only fun to eat, it's healthy! Again, this is a dairy selection, so peel and eat. (Important Health Note: kids under five should never be given string cheese due to choking risks)

7. Bubble gum - oh yeah! Chewing gets the old metabolism stoked up. Chewing also keeps your mouth busy so you won't feel inclined to poke it full of a goody every time you see one. And gum is low in calories and contains zero fat.

The jelly beans, cotton candy, marshmallows, candy corn and red hots contain zero fat, but the calorie content is all due to sugar. If you want to have a few of these items, then please do. They shouldn't blow your diet as long as you keep your stash to a minimum.

On the other hand, the chili dog with mustard should have a stake driven through the center of it.  Talk about Diet Evil! Oh my, I'm getting scared just thinking about it.

Regular soda contains a lot of calories for what it is, but sometimes we need to splurge. Just stay away from the 2-liter containers. A 12-ounce can should suffice. And don't get Beer Wanderlust. Leave the keg alone!

Large pickle equals large sodium intake. Although calorie content is scatty, the sodium will blow up your thighs so big that you won't be able to fit into your jeans until Thanksgiving.  So skip the pickle and while you're at it, skip the mixed nuts as well. They, too contain salt and will generate enough gas to blow all the bark and acorns off your trees.

Nachos aren't macho, at least while dieting.

Popcorn balls contain quite a few calories due to the syrup used to bind them together. And one must weigh the worth of eating something that will leave their teeth filled with husks.

If you do get Diet Naughty, don't panic. Simply get right back onto the Diet Trail come morning.  Happy Halloween!
