Have Egg Nog & Lose Weight Too

On a diet but craving the egg nog amid the holiday season? Or, do you have a craving and it's nowhere near the holidays?

Yeah, it's high in calories and fat, but if you're an eggnog fan, it's just not the holidays without it. And when that craving occurs with no holidays in sight - what's a dieter to do?

Never fear - Diet Bites is here with a delicious eggnog concoction that will have your bathroom scales doing the Jingle Bell Rock. Yes - you can have your eggnog and lose weight too!

Take note that our eggnog recipe is more of a fluffy blast of flavor, therefore it's name of 'Snow Nog'.

If you want a drinkable nog, then substitute the whipped topping for reduced fat or skim milk. Use one cup of the creamer to two cups of the skim milk. Add a serving of light whipped cream to the top along with a dash or two of ground nutmeg to the top of the fluffy topping.

The total caloric values will equal about 750 and it will serve four individuals for 188 calories each or three generously for about 250 calories each. Keep in mind that eggnog servings generally equal 1/2 cup; this recipe provides one cup serving sizes for three individuals - or 3/4 cup servings when four individuals are served. Now on to our diet Snow Nog recipe.

Snow Nog, Our Original Recipe, Lower in Calories Than Regular Eggnog

Our ingredients and a quick calorie verification count and a few food notes.

Recipe Ingredients for Snow Nog

One thawed 8-ounce container of Fat Free Whipped Topping; The entire container should contain about 450 calories.
3 Tablespoons of Coffee-Mate Eggnog Flavor coffee creamer. About 120 calories and found in the dairy section.*

How to Prepare This Lower Calorie Egg Nog Recipe

Simply fold the eggnog creamer into the whipped topping. Take care not to over-stir or whip  because topping is sensitive and might collapse.

Total Caloric Values - 570 and this recipe serves four people very generously for about 143 calories each. Sprinkle on crushed peppermint candy if desired and decorate with a mint leaf. Or add some chocolate sprinkles for minimal calories along with that leaf of mint.

We also recommend that you add 1 single serving size container of sugar free, low fat vanilla yogurt to your Snow Nog.  It adds nutrition and body to the Diet Fluff.

Special Preparation Notes

*When the eggnog creamer is unavailable outside of the holiday season, use Italian or French Vanilla versions and add a small amount of ground nutmeg and a bit of ground cinnamon. Do take care with the amount of ground nutmeg that you add because when consumed in amounts as small as a teaspoon, it can cause serious health issues which require immediate medical attention.

How many calories are contained in full-blown eggnog? Quite a few. When prepared with whole milk dairy products a cup can contain more than 400 calories. When prepared from powdered mix, the calories decrease to about 260 per cup.

Let's review the nutritional data for the skim or skinny version. Not too shabby.
