Low Fat, Low Calorie Party Appetizers, Punch & Munchies For Your New
Year's Party - Yes you can party while dieting!
CRACKED
PEPPER & HAM SANDWICHES WITH APPLE BACON: Cook bacon in microwave or pan
on the stovetop. Remove and add dried apples to the hot bacon and stir. Assemble
by placing 1 lean slice of ham on wheatberry bread (or your favorite bread),
1 slice of REAL cheese, and 1 leaf of lettuce. Spread another slice of bread
with LIGHT Mayo that has been mixed with coarse cracked pepper. (You can omit
the pepper if you'd like.) Cut sandwich into 4 triangles and ram one cute toothpick
through the top of each.
POTATO
BAR: Toss out the alcohol from the bar and serve potatoes instead. They
are healthier, lighter in calories and taste wonderfully delicious. Set
out the standard fixings: bacon bits, chives, LIGHT sour cream, grated MOZZARELLA
cheese (lighter in fat and calories) AND rather than butter, set out warm
butter spray (Parkay OR I Can't Believe It's Not Butter are both wonderful).
OLD
STANDBY - VEGETABLE TRAY: An all-time favorite is the vegetable tray. Be
sure and fill your dip bowl with LIGHT dressing. Try to be a bit unique
by offering a variety of unusual vegetables such as baby corn on your platter.
POPPED
CORN: Put out a bowl of healthy popcorn. Sprinkle it with some warmed up,
no calorie butter spray before serving, a good dash of cinnamon and then
shake it all up with a few packets of SPLENDA or Equal.
PARTY
PARTY, PUNCH PUNCH: 1 large bottle of Hawaiian Punch made with SPLENDA,
1-two liter bottle of club soda, 1 large bottle of LIGHT Cranberry-Grape
juice. Mix and add sparkling ice cubes.
DIET
IRISH PUNCH: It's as green as a gourd! Mix together: 2 cups of fresh
lime juice, several packages of no calorie sweetener, 1 large can of unsweetened
crushed pineapple, several drops of green food coloring (depending on how
green you want your punch). Add1 large bottle of club soda. Next, spoon
in a container of lime sherbet. Drink this and you'll have good luck
all year!
PARTY
SANDWICHES: purchase several varieties of the SMALL party breads such as
rye, wheat, white, etc., an assortment of lean meats, an assortment of REAL
cheese (save the light cheese for re-papering your bath after the party),
a few pickles, green olives, black olives and some frilly toothpicks.
Assemble the small sandwiches using LIGHT Mayo, honey
mustard, or regular mustard. OR, make some LIGHT pimento cheese appetizers
using a bit of grated cheese, LIGHT Mayo and a jar of drained pimentos.

Purchase some fresh crabs from your local
seafood market and ask then to steam them for you. They may be reheated in your
microwave just before serving time, if desired hot. Arrange on a pretty platter
stuffed with parsley and fresh cherry tomatoes. Place a mixture of sour cream,
chopped black olives, and chives in the middle of the tray with a tiny spoon
so that your guests can add some to their plate to enjoy with their crabmeat.
