Diet, Weight Loss Tips, Weight Loss Support, Weight Loss & Dieting Advice THE DANGERS OF EXERCISING IN THE CITY |
|
Exercising in the polluted fog of the city may come with more health risks than health benefits. Noxious pollutants can quickly spiral to unhealthy levels, including ozone, carbon monoxide, lead, tiny airborne particles, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, and even insectcides. Think about this.... There are thousands of vehicles roaming throughout our cities each day. As time goes by, we all find that we need a set of tires. So...where does all that rubber go? Right into the air that we breathe! When we exercise in areas with unhealthy pollution levels, we are breathing in particles that can damage our internal organs. And when we exercise, we breathe much deeper and harder than when at rest. To keep your risks at bay, try the following fitness tips: - Keep posted on the ozone warnings - The hotter months pose greater health risks because that is when smog settles in - Exercise in the morning if possible; mid afternoon is a no-no because the carbon monoxide levels from motor vehicles generally peaks at this point. - Try to exercise in indoor areas, such as walking at the local mall. - If you have a heart related condition, seek your doctor's advice before trotting out into the Concrete Jungle.
