Diet Enemies That Sabatoge Diets - Diet and Body

The following are a few cute, but naughty Diet Enemies that you will meet as you journey along The Old Diet Trail.  For most of us, when we aren't in Diet Mode, these little buggers might be our best friends!

Meet Butter - Diet Enemy #5

Butter - gift of Mother Nature OR Unfortunate Discovery of Mankind?  

Butter?  Oleo?  Margarine?  Basically, they are all the same.

Although dietary fat is something to be watched, without the appropriate amount of fat in the diet an imbalance can occur.  Because butter is basically a clump of fat, it's easy to get carried away before we know it.  It's a bit like salt.  First, we add the recommended amount.  Over time, we develop a passion for that buttery flavor and so we begin adding more and more and more butter to our food until our innocent baked potato resembles a duck's beak. Over time, arteries can become clogged and oh no - it's just too scary to continue.

Your best diet defense for Diet Enemy #5: You have a few choices in which you can combat this Diet Enemy.  a) Begin cutting back on the amount of butter that you add to your food.  b) Opt for the great tasting no calorie butter sprays that you store in your refrigerator.

Meet Sugar - Diet Enemy #6

Ahhh - Sugar is one sweet Diet Enemy!  We've all heard the horror stories relating to this Sweet foe: rotten teeth, hyperactivity, the root cause of diabetes.  Facts: These accusations are all unproven myths at this point in time.  However, sugar is rather hefty calorie-wise, about 800 calories per cup.  If you're adding sugar to your tea and coffee throughout the day, those 4 teaspoons can add up to a cup quite quickly.  And if you're dieting, that would put you very close to your 1,200 daily minimum calorie requirement.

Your best diet defense for Diet Enemy #6: Sweet Success!  Opt for the no calorie sweeteners.  If you don't like the taste, cut back on the amount of sugar that you use.
