HOW MANY CALORIES IN COFFEE LATTE?
Written by Diet Bites
Many people prefer Cappuccino, but for me, there's nothing quite so smooth and velvety as a coffee latte!
The amount of calories contained in the latte depend upon the recipe. For example, McDonald's delicious 12-ounce McCafe Latte contains 150 calories, 8 total fat grams, 11 carbohydrate grams, 8 protein grams and 105 mg of sodium (salt).
Their McCafe Cappuccino contains just a bit-fewer calories at 120 with 7 fat grams in total, 9 carbohydrate grams, 6 protein grams and 85 mg of sodium.
When compared, the cappuccino makes a healthier choice but for Latte Lovers, those 30 calories that are separating the two do not create that-wide of a gap. And a nutritional plus for the latte is that it is prepared with milk with added Vitamin D3. What's so great about this is that the dieter can amend the whole milk to non-fat milk. Now let's review the differences:
When prepared with the non-fat milk the 12-ounce McDonald's McCafe Latte contains only 90 calories, 0 total fat grams, 13 carbohydrate grams, 9 protein grams and 115 mg of sodium. You can even request zero calorie vanilla syrup to accompany your latte. So many options, such a delicious beverage - and for only 90 tiny calories.
What about other coffee houses and latte calories? On average, here is the caloric data based on the 14-ounce size latte:
Prepared with skim or non-fat milk: about 110 calories
If more sweetness is desired, you can always add a few packs of calorie free, sugar substitute to sweeten the 'pot'. Splenda and Equal both work exceptionally well.
How do latte calories compare to mocha calories? We've already seen the difference between lattes and cappuccinos and there isn't that much difference separating them. But what about mochas?
Unfortunately, the gap is much wider. In fact you can enjoy about three of the skinny lattes at McDonalds for about the same caloric value as one McCafe Mocha. One 12-ounce Mocha contains 280 calories, 11 total fat grams, 40 carbohydrate grams, 6 protein grams and 125 sodium mgs. What happens if you order it with non-fat milk? The values shrink by only 40 calories. It is topped with chocolate and whipped cream which add these higher caloric values to the coffee drink. When we remove the chocolate syrup the calories shrink to 110 and when we remove the whipped cream along with the chocolate syrup the values shrink to 70 calories.
Also take note that it is smaller than our skinny latte.
The following data nutrition table is based on the values of cappuccino powder that can be purchased at your local market to create specialized coffees; the latte powders are very similar in nutritional values to the cappuccino powder.
If you prepare your latte at home, try adding a serving of real whipped cream that is of the reduced fat variety to your beverage for a tiny 15 calories per serving. A teaspoon of dark cocoa powder as well as a dash of different flavors of reduced sugar or zero sugar syrups and flavorings can turn your latte from plain to gourmet - and you won't even need a chef's hat.
