Long John Silver's Calories, Best Fast Food Choices for Dieters
Written by Diet Bites
What are the best choices at Long John Silver's for dieters based on caloric content?
Keep in mind that fast food restaurant calories are continually changing so be sure to request a nutrition guide whenever you visit your favorite hot spot.
Long John Silver's serves a variety of food - mainly fish but they do have some alternatives such as their chicken selections. They also serve restaurant quality food; if you were to visit a fine dining restaurant - you would more likely than not be paying quite a bit more money for the same quality of food.
Their serving sizes are very generous and they offer several baked fish selections which can fit great into a weight loss plan.
Exercise Caution When Ordering, Using Your Savvy Diet Senses
There are items to be cautious about ordering, but such is the case with all restaurants - whether fine dining or fast food.
The Battered Alaskan Pollock contains about 260 calories per fish plank and 16 grams of total fat. Take note that it is on the salty side at 790 mgs, and it is a fried food menu selection. The area of fat that we're most concerned about is Trans fat; the fish plank contains quite a few at 4.5 grams. It also contains 4 grams of saturated fat. But if you're craving a plank of fried fish - this baby will certainly fit the bill for minimal calories - as fried fish goes.
A better choice is the Grilled Pacific Salmon at 150 calories and 5 total fat grams. There are no Trans fats in the salmon entree - but take note than many of the seafood items do contain significant Trans fat.
The Breaded Clam Strips are particularly alarming at 7 Trans fat grams per serving. You'll get a bigger burst of health by sticking with the grilled fish selections.
Stacking Up Energy Values, Dressings & Dips
Limit the use of dressings as the values can quickly climb. Take note that the ranch dressing contains 160 calories per serving pack; the tartar sauce contains 100 calories per pack. The malt vinegar has zero calories; as does the lemon juice - which goes very well on fish.
As for the hushpuppies at 60 calories each, would you really rather have two of those or an order of the Grilled Pacific salmon? The cole slaw may contain 'skinny' cabbage, but at 200 calories for a tiny wad - let's enjoy something else on the menu.
If you prefer chicken strips, they are fair in caloric content at 140 each and 8 total fat grams. They have the traditional 'Long John Silver's flavor locked into the batter and they are quite delicious.
Also check out their Broccoli Cheese Soup for about 220 calories per serving. Other healthy menu selections include the Vegetable Medley for 50 calories, Corn Cobette for 90 calories, and their Grilled Tilapia for only 250 calories.
