The Healthy Benefits of Tea

Tea contains about 1/2 the caffeine as instant coffee, is a diuretic (stimulates the body to rid water via the old kidneys), and is packed with tannin - an iron-building substance.

Some teas act as an anti-oxidant which protect through absorption, some molecules from being oxidized by neutralizing the action of free-radicals before they can do serious damage to body tissues.

Other than SOME teas - garlic, onion, alfalfa sprouts, broccoli, sweet potatoes, cabbage, spinach, kale and lettuce are also great antioxidants. Plan to include some of these items on your veggie tray.

According to the Prevention Magazine Nutrition Reference Handbook:

Health Notes:

  • Individuals sensitive to aspirin should avoid tea as they may experience an allergic reaction.
  • Individuals allergic to flowering weeks, herbs and certain fruits may find it best to avoid HERBAL teas.

Homeatherapy:

  • Rosemary tea may act as a balm for headaches - so give it a try!
  • Tansy tea may alleviate gout.
