Making a Fierce, Healthy Burger

You can create your own version of the Steakburger at home by using just a bit of effort. There is one secret ingredient. Note that whenever ground beef is used in a recipe and the title of such contains the word 'steak' then more likely than not, only the leanest grind is used therein.

Such is the case in our leaner, lighter recipe.

Purchase a package of the leanest grind possible - or you can use a steak of your choice (sirloin works well) and grind it yourself. Season with the most simple of ingredients: salt and cracked black pepper.

Now it is time to take your patty to a heat source, one that requires no additional oil in order for the meat to reach doneness. We suggest a non-stick pan used on the stove top, a broiler or toaster oven or your grill.

Adding Vegetables to Burgers Adds Layers of Nutrition

Top with reduced fat cheese if you wish; add the common burger ingredients - slices of red tomato, thin circled of dill pickle, green leaves of lettuce and thin slices of onion.

As to the hamburger bun, toast it if you wish in your toaster oven; it will require no additional butter, margarine or other oil. If you want to add some for flavor, then go with the reduced fat varieties.

As to the sauces, mustards, ketchup and Mayo are the traditional spreads - but if you opt for the later, then you'll want to use a reduced fat variety.
