Small Hamburger

Ah - a controversial food on the dieter's menu. Even so, it can reside there and stand proud while doing such.

Three ounces of white tuna that has been packed in water and drained contains 220 calories; three ounces contains 109 calories. Light tuna packed in water contains 191 calories per can and 99 calories per three ounces.

White tuna packed in oil is significantly higher in caloric content at 331 calories per can and 158 calories per three ounces. Light tuna canned in oil contains 339 calories per can and 168 per three ounces. Caloric values are based on drained tuna - so don't even think about eating the oil.

To prepare a diet friendly tuna salad, mix the drained water-packed tuna and add the following: finely chopped onion, finely chopped celery, light Mayo OR Miracle Whip Light, cracked pepper and a bit of fresh parsley. Mix and spread onto your favorite potato bread. One small can will produce four sandwiches.

Spaghetti & Marinara Sauce

Yes, you can enjoy your spaghetti and lose weight too! Most pasta contains 200 calories per cup - or very close to that. So you can enjoy 1 ½ cup of your favorite pasta blend or shape and add 1/2 cup of marinara sauce (50 calories).

Using spinach pasta is an excellent means of getting in more nutritional values. Total calories: 200. Sprinkle with parmesan cheese for an additional 20 calories.

Cheese Toast

Begin with a slice of 80 calorie bread of your choice. Cheese compliments rye and pumpernickel breads very well and will add additional flavor. Simply spread one slice of bread with light margarine (40 calories). Top with reduced fat cheese (50 calories) and place beneath the broiler flames in your oven or in the toaster oven. Total calories: 160 and the perk comes in the way of servings from the Dairy Group and Grain Group.
