Serves 4 for about 65 calories each OR 2 extremely generously for 125 calories each. Okay, you can have all 4 servings for a mere 250 calories.
1 ½ cup of ice cold skim milk
4 ice cubes plus 2-3 packets of Splenda or Equal if extra sweetness is desired
¼ packet of sugar free strawberry gelatin (use the powder only)
1 cup of ripe strawberries (or 1 cup of frozen strawberries and you can omit the ice cubes).
Be sure to reserve 4 whole berries for garnish if you are using fresh berries. You will also need about 8 Tablespoons of low fat whipped topping for this recipe. Blend all of the ingredients except the whipped topping until thick. Then add the topping.
Weight Loss Tips, Low Calorie Recipes for Eggs
While you are on a weight loss plan it's a great idea to keep a small selection of boiled eggs in your refrigerator. Go ahead and peel them after you have boiled them as the shells are much easier to remove at this time. I've always boiled my eggs, drained them, then they get a quick bath with cool water - and almost-always the slip right out of the jacket.
During a time or two in my life I raised my own hens for fresh eggs and because I gave the chickens the best of care, I felt great about eating their eggs. But if I collected them straight from the nest and prepared them, they were more apt to keep their jackets than if I had waited until the following day to use them.
Eggs that are both too old and that are very fresh are the eggs that tend to want to keep their jackets on. So check the labels and yes - always opt for the freshest eggs possible. Odds are, the eggs you purchase didn't just pop out of the hen.
As a side note, I always purchase the cage free eggs at the market. Yes, they may - and I say 'may' because at times they are actually cheaper than the non-caged eggs. It's just a little thing that I can do to make me feel better about what I put on our family table.
Eggs are naturally low in caloric content and a great source of protein. Because of such they remain a favorite among dieters.
There are so many quick methods for preparing eggs. Here are just a few by Diet Bites:
- The next time that you prepare scrambled eggs for breakfast, toss in a serving of real bacon bits. They contain a skinny 25 calories per serving and they take your scrambled eggs to a new level.
- While you're at it, you can take your scrambles up another notch by adding some reduced fat shredded cheese. And if you'd like to take them up yet another level - toss in some sauteed sliced mushrooms, chopped onion and chopped bell pepper.
- Keep in mind that eggs aren't just for breakfast. You can smash your boiled ones and create a quick salad with them. You can serve a side of ham with the little white oval office - and you'll have a meal fit for a king. And cook them over easy and add them to foods and recipes that they might compliment, such as a tender piece of steak.
- Gravy tends to be lacking in nutritional value but for 50 calories a serving, it can still be a part of a healthy weight loss plan. You can add a dose of nutrition by adding sliced boiled eggs. This reminds me of the holidays that I used to spend at my parent's house in another lifetime. We had two different bowls of gravy; one with the eggs and one without. The men in the family always went for gravy containing the eggs.
