Ways With Frozen Foods for Weight Loss

What's the difference between a frozen piece of fruit and a canned piece of fruit - flavor aside. And what's the difference between a fresh piece of fruit and a frozen piece of fruit - again, flavor aside.

The answer is that frozen fruits take a lot longer to eat than canned or fresh - or even dried fruits.

But it's not just frozen fruits that can assist in dropping that unwanted weight - vegetables are shoulder-to-shoulder. And when in a pinch, the different varieties of vegetable mixes can save time and work.

Here are a few tasty recipes prepared from frozen vegetable mixes.

Quick Vegetable Medley

Not only popular - but ultra easy. Look for the vegetable mixes that include corn, chopped or sliced bell pepper, diced carrots and English peas in particular.

Place into a deep non-stick skillet with a bit of water. Place a lid on the skillet and allow the vegetables to steam. Add light margarine or zero calorie refrigerated spray, salt and pepper to the cooked vegetables. Serve with a pan-roasted chicken breast and crunchy crusty bread and a tall glass of zero calorie unsweetened tea.

Quick Stir Fries

There are so many vegetable mixes to choose from in the frozen section of your local market - from Asian based vegetable mixes to asparagus to Santa Fe. The possibilities are truly endless for making low calorie, delicious meals.

All that is needed is a protein that will compliment the vegetables as well as a lower calorie sauce that can be added for flavor. Example: 1 medium bag of vegetable medley, 1 cup of lean beef, steak sauce. Or you can add ingredients that are lower in caloric content that will compliment the frozen vegetables. Example: 1 medium bag of asparagus, water chestnut, snow peas, onions and carrots plus chicken breast plus your favorite Asian sauce.

Quick Breaded Vegetables

While fried and breaded vegetables aren't a good choice for your weight loss plan, vegetables such as breaded okra and even breaded onion rings are certainly tasty options when baked in the oven until crisp. But of course, for optimum weight loss results, stick to the non-breaded versions of foods such as raw okra.

To prepare, place into a non-stick skillet with a bit of water. Allow to boil until the okra is thawed. Allow water to evaporate via the cooking process. Add a serving of light margarine (40 calories) to each cup of okra that you have in the pan. Salt and pepper. This is a delicious entree. Add canned petite tomatoes for a gumbo style okra.
