Salad Doesn't Always Equal Skinny Energy Values
By referring to the energy values found in foods, we're referring to the amount of calories or kcals contained therein.
While salads are assumed to hold the smallest of energy values - it isn't always the case. If we're dealing with lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, carrot, onion, mushroom, broccoli, cauliflower, bell pepper and other fresh vegetables that are minimal in calories, then the values are of course going to remain minimal.
Salad Additives Add Flavor But Also Add Calories, Fat Content
But we often need to add things in order to give the mix some flavor - things like shredded full-blown cheese and dressings, bacon bits, buttery garlic croutons and so forth.
At this point, the values are shooting over the moon, along with the wild-eyed cow and her dingling bell.
In our data chart below we're concentrating on the popular salad selections, all of which are extremely rich in energy values.
The biggest boy on the list is the Taco version with chili and no salsa - but it's not the salsa that we have to be wigged out about as it's very tiny in values.
Using logic, we can see that none of the following menu selections are going to comfortably be a match for a reduced-calorie weight loss plan. Therefore, load up on the leafy greens, add the other fresh vegetables that we referenced above and reach for the light dressings.
