Coffee Recipes for Dieters

One Irish Coffee contains about 218 calories per cup which is quite steep in the grand scheme of Calorie Land. We can do much better than that.....

The average Cup of Joe served plain contains zero calories. It's not until we start adding creamers and sugars that the caloric values spike. And with the addition of alcohol - those calories really spike....in more ways than one.

On that note, let's see if we can come up with some low calorie coffee recipes that can fit nicely into your diet plan.

Low Calorie Coffee Recipes

Chocolate and coffee go heavenly together. And for the 218 calories reference above - you can enjoy a tasty piece of cake. No - not coffee cake, but cake that has been prepared with coffee.

The next time that you bake a chocolate cake, opt for the cake mix that contains the fewest calories. Where water is called for in the ingredient list, omit and substitute prepared coffee instead.

Omit the frosting as well as the cake will be plenty rich without it and while dieting, it's not wise to have all those pesky calories to deal with.

Coffee can also compliment beef dishes. The next time you prepare beef, try adding just a bit to the pot or pan.

For an Irish Coffee that doesn't contain a plethora of calories - at least not 218, the commercially prepared coffee creamers make a much wiser option at 35 calories per serving.

And Irish Cream flavors are readily available. For over 200 calories, one could add about six servings of the creamer - only that would be a very bad idea as the entire cup of coffee would be nothing but creamer.

Speaking of the Irish Creamers, they can be used to enhance recipes and foods as well. Try using on cooked winter squash such as acorn squash.

Or, open a can of pureed pumpkin. Add pumpkin pie spice and the Irish Creamer. Heat until warm. This pumpkin soup with an Irish twist makes a warm and comforting meal without a plethora of calories and fat grams.

But don't stop with Irish Cream as those flavored creamers go lovely with some varieties of tea. You'll have to experiment as curdling can occur which makes the tea unsightly.
