Diet Menu, The Fruit of the EarthI've always thought that one of the best marketing ads 'stemmed' from the Fruit of the Loom people. For one, they've got these grown men dressed in ridiculous fruity costumes and there is a twist as the undergear supports 'fruit' made from the loom. But today, we'll be talking about a different type of fruit - about exotic fruits from Mother Nature herself that you may have never even heard about. Due to the American culture being flavored more and more with new immigrants, we are seeing a change in not only the way that America looks, but also in the way America cooks. In my studies, I have gathered that most of the foreign diets from around the world enjoy a healthier faire than we Americans. And just looking at the headlines over the past few years, we can see the negative health consequences - such as in Asia, where the American eating culture was introduced. The American diet appears to have spawned a rise in heart disease and cancer - as well as other health concerns. Fruits tend to be a very important part of most foreign diets. Here are just a few of the fun fruits that are creeping into the American market as an answer to the new immigrant's yearnings for a taste of home. Ugli Fruit - (UGLY FRUIT) Looks like a green grapefruit or an oversized green orange with a nectarine-grapefruit taste. Tomatillo - (TOE-MAY-TEA-O) A staple in the Mexican kitchen. Resembles a flat green tomato covered with a tomato husk. Great source of vitamin C. To prepare, remove husks, wash tomatillo, steam for about 5 minutes. Tomatillos make a rich sauce that can be used to season your Mexican recipes. Cactus Fruit - These are the tiny green fruits from the cactus plant. When peeled, a ruby red sweet fruit is yielded. May be enjoyed fresh, or used in recipes. NAVIGATE DIET SITE MAPS |
