Diet Tips for Figs
This exotic fruit is quite delicious when broiled and paired with honey, another of Mother Nature's sweet gifts. You will need these two ingredients to prepare this luscious dessert which is naturally low in caloric values.
Recipe for Honey & Figs
Start with clean and figs with the stems removed. Preheat your broiler to high - and a toaster oven works just fine. Slice the figs in half and arrange them on a baking sheet with the flesh side looking up towards the broiler. Use a brush and apply your favorite local honey to the figs - and be generous. Allow them to cook until they take on a caramelized appearance - about 4-5 minutes, depending upon the heat-power of your oven.
Recipe for Honey, Fig & Tart
Figs marry well with dried apricots, too. To prepare this recipe, you can either make your all-purpose flour quiche crust - or you can purchase the dough at the market; we recommend the roll sold in the dairy section of the store.
Roll it out and arrange it into a fluted quiche or tart pan. If you don't have this type of baking pan then you can use a regular pie plate - and if this is the case, then by all means purchase a ready-to-bake crust from the frozen section of the market.
You will need the following ingredients: fresh slices of figs, fresh slices of apricot and local honey (assists well in combating some symptoms associated with allergies related to pollens in the area).
While your oven or toaster oven preheats to 350 degrees, arrange the sliced fruit in a circular shape onto the pie dough. Drizzle with the honey and bake until the crust is a golden brown. Remove and allow to cool to room temperature; enjoy a small wedge with Greek yogurt - or your favorite yogurt.
Almost everyone has a jar of grape jelly or jam in their refrigerator or sitting on their pantry shelf. But have you ever tried fig preserves? There is nothing quite like their flavor - and they are wonderful when spread onto warm biscuits or toasted English muffins.
Purchase dried figs for a healthy snack. They are a good source for dietary fiber; let's view the content based on the size of the fruit: Large: 1.9 grams, Medium: 1.4 grams, Small: 1.2 grams.
