Diet Tips for Losing Unwanted Pounds

Are you really ready to lose weight?

Jackie decided that her body needed a major overhaul.  A diet - that is what she needed.  Five days into her diet plan, Jackie visits her Aunt Rona.

To celebrate, they go to a fancy bar-b-que restaurant where the floors are dusted with peanut shells. The centerpiece of the table is a tin bucket filled with unshelled peanuts.  Jackie and Aunt Rona have so much fun, shelling the peanuts, then tossing them on the floor.

Throwing her diet to the wind, Jackie orders ribs, potato salad, coleslaw, fried cheese bites and homemade biscuits - made daily by the restaurant. (Maybe we should call these restaurant-made biscuits, eh?) 

For dessert, Jackie orders a triple-decker, triple-deluxe chocolate cake topped with chocolate ice cream, chocolate whip cream, and a chocolate covered cherry. Ooooh-la-la.

Next, she and Aunt Rona head to the movies. Jackie collects a bucket of hot buttered popcorn to enjoy with her aunt during the chic-flick.

On Monday, Jackie gets back on her diet plan.  She's been pretty Diet Bad for the last few days, so it's time to get back on track. 

All is well until Wednesday when evil brownie-point co-worker Judy arrives to work with donuts to celebrate the Birthday of the Boss. Ooooh.  Chocolate covered donuts. 

"I'll have two," decides Jackie, promising herself that she'll get right back on track with her weight loss plan after she enjoys the donuts.

On Thursday, Jackie returns to her diet plan, but is off again by Friday night as it's Girl's Night Out and it's a-lodda-enchiladas at the local Mexican restaurant. Who in their right mind can resist those?

By Monday, Jackie is getting so frustrated with her diet plan. She's lost NO weight and it's so frustrating. 

In actuality, Jackie should thank her Lucky Star that she hasn't gained weight.  Off her diet - on her diet - off her diet - on her diet!  Diet roller coasters are not only scary, they can be deadly when they come across a triple-layered cake resting on the rails. 

The big question and the key to Jackie's hopes of losing weight is: 'Is Jackie really ready to lose weight OR is she just playing around with a diet plan so full of holes that it has no hope of sailing on the Seas of Weight Loss Success?'

To rectify, Jackie must leave the 'food bait' alone and simply concentrate on her diet plan until she reaches her weight loss goals.  And then, oh what a Fish Story she will have...

Big Fat Diet Tip

While dieting or not, it's a great idea to monitor foods that are high in cholesterol content. It a food contains a lot of cholesterol, it generally is very high in other unhealthy fats.


Foods Rich in Cholesterol Content

Food: 3 Ounces unless noted


Milk shakes, thick chocolate, 10.6 fluid ounces


Ham, sliced, regular (approximately 11% fat), 2 slices


Muffins, corn, dry mix, prepared - one


Entrees, fish fillet, battered or breaded, and fried, 1 fillet


Fast foods, hamburger; single, regular patty; with condiments - one sandwich


Cake, sponge, commercially prepared - one shortcake


Butter, salted, 1 Tablespoon


Butter, without salt, 1 Tablespoon


Beef stew, canned entree, 1 cup


Fast foods, submarine sandwich, with cold cuts, 1 six inch


Pie, coconut custard, commercially prepared, slice


Cheese, cottage, creamed, large or small curd, 1 cup


Candies, white chocolate, 1 cup


Fish, tuna, white, canned in water, drained solids


Cake, yellow, commercially prepared, with vanilla frosting, slice


Pork, cured, ham, extra lean and regular, canned, roasted


Cake, boston cream pie, commercially prepared, slice


Bologna, beef and pork - 2 slices


Mollusks, oyster, eastern, wild, raw, 6 medium
