Heredity determines how we look, how we feel and it can also influence the numbers on our weight loss scales. Let's take a look into the lives of Steve and Jack to get an idea of just how the gene cesspool can affect that number.

Steve is moderately active.  He enjoys hunting and fishing, just like his dad. In fact, the love for these sports was inherited from his dad.  Both of Steve's parents have been overweight since their early twenties.  That's about the time that Steve noticed a big change in his own weight. Most everyone in Steve's family is overweight.

Even though Steve watches his diet closely, he can't seem to lose the unwanted pounds. On his last visit to the doctor, Steve discovered that his cholesterol was off the roof.

Jack is moderately active.  He enjoys drawing and collecting old watches, just like his dad.  In fact, the love for these hobbies was inherited from his dad.  Both of Jack's parents have been thin lizzys all their life. Most everyone in Jack's family is stick thin.

Even though Jack watches his diet closely and has tried to gain a few pounds, he can't seem to accomplish such.  On his last visit to the doctor, Jack discovered that his cholesterol was off the roof.

Summary: We have two males who are both moderately active. Both closely monitor their diet, yet both battle weight problems of a different nature. Both suffer from high cholesterol problems.  It's all in the genes.

If you are having problems with your weight, and if you closely monitor your diet, let your doctor know. There are medications that may be of help in getting your weight under control, as well as high cholesterol.
