How to calculate the calories in recipes.

It's no surprise how quickly calories add up!  If you are aware of the number of calories that your homemade goody contains, you add control to your diet plan.  And while dieting, it's a very good thing to be in control!

There are several ways to go about calculating calories in recipes; here are just three methods that we use in the Diet Bites kitchen:

Diet Bites - free weight loss tips. Before starting, take each ingredient in your recipe and jot down the number of calories to the side. Generally, the package will contain the number of calories for the serving size of the product.

Example: If you use 2 cups of flour and it contains 400 calories per cup, simply double that to equal 800 calories.  Next, just add up all the calories and divide by the number of servings you anticipate.

Diet Bites - free weight loss tips. If you aren't certain how many servings your recipe will deliver, calculate after you have prepared the recipe. Either cut the prepared recipe into slices, or dip into serving bowls - then divide that number into the total calories contained in the recipe.

Diet Bites - free weight loss tips. Take an ordinary recipe and substitute the fatty or sugary ingredients with healthier options, such as applesauce for shortening or oil.  Add up the numbers, then divide by number of serving sizes.

Preparing your meals at home allows freedom to adjust the food to meet the needs of your healthy diet plan.

If you experiment with diet-wise recipes, be sure to jot down your ingredients so you can prepare the goody again.
