Lower Calorie Recipe for Avocado Burger

This is one of our favorite burger recipe and rather than containing fatty ground beef, we use the healthier fat source - the green avocado.

But the next time that you prepare a regular ground beef burger, try adding a few thin slices and savor the richness.

Recipe for The Green Avocado Goddess Burger, a lighter low calorie burger

The Recipe Ingredients
1/3 of a small avocado, fully ripened but firm in texture - and sliced thin
1 slice of purple onion - although you can opt for any variety
2 slices of a large, sun-ripened tomato
3 lettuce leaves
Poppyseed salad dressing OR Balsamic Vinegar
1 small hamburger bun

How to Prepare

Toast the bun in your toaster oven until it is golden. You can spread it with reduced fat margarine if you wish for a few more calories.

Remove it from the oven and let's start building our Avocado Burger.

First we'll place the lettuce leaves onto the bottom half of the bun. Next, let's add the sliced onion and then the slices of fresh tomato. Now it's time to add the star; add one serving of the Poppyseed salad dressing or the Balsamic Vinegar to the top, then enjoy.

As a preparation note - you can use any variety of salad dressing that you wish.

Using the low fat varieties will keep a tap on calories and fat grams; the Poppyseed dressing that we used contained 60 calories per serving and the Balsamic Vinegar only 5 per serving.

My husband loves the Poppyseed dressing while I favor the Balsamic. Both are delicious.

Super Food Choice for Your Diet Plan Based on Nutritional Values

One 6-ounce avocado contains about 325 calories and 31 grams of fat. Avocados are also rich in potassium.

Avocados were originally known as alligator pears because of their rough, green skins. There are many varieties of avocados to be found at your local market, some with skins as smooth as a baby's.

Look for firm, yet ripe specimens. The fruit should give a bit when pressed upon. Encourage ripening by placing on a window sill, by bananas or apples or in a sealed bag submerged in flour.
