Diet Bites Quick Apple Pie Recipe

Recipe Ingredients

Pie Crust
6 Apples, Lemon Juice
Ground Cinnamon, Splenda

How to Prepare

Purchase a ready-made crust. Although you can use graham cracker, this recipe tastes best with an all-purpose flour based crust.

You'll need to purchase the dough sold in the dairy section at the market rather than the actual crusts that are preformed and already loaded into pie tins that are in the frozen section of the market.

Peel about half a dozen medium sized sweet apples and remove the cores. Sprinkle with lemon juice if necessary to prevent browning as you work. Slice the apples into very thin slices and sprinkle with ground cinnamon and Splenda - which holds up magnificently to heat.

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and take out a quiche pan. Treat with cooking spray to prevent sticking, then unfold the raw pie dough and arrange it in the quiche pan.

Arrange the apple slices in a circular motion on top of the dough. Be sure to fill the pan. Sprinkle the top with more ground cinnamon if desired. Finally, bake in the oven until the crust is fully done - nice and golden brown and the apples are tender.

Apple Nutrition

1 medium apple with the skin contains about 80 calories. Dried apples contain about 15 calories per ring.

Both dried and fresh apples make excellent additions to salads.

Apples Compliment the 5 Basic Food Groups

This fruit is so versatile that it even pairs well with all the food groups.

For the Grain Group it can be turned into an apple pie creation such as the recipe above - or as an apple turnover.

For the Vegetable Group - it goes excellently into salads in chopped form and there is no need to remove the peeling.

For the Dairy Group, it can be baked in the oven and topped with ground cinnamon and light cream.

And for the Protein Group - it compliments pork exceptionally well.
