Banana Recipes for Weight Loss

Written by Diet Bites

There are foods and then there are super foods. Yeah, like the banana....

When it comes to the banana, it resides way at the top of the food chain. It's such a versatile food and so convenient. There aren't many fresh fruits that can be purchased year-round.

Take the apple; in most areas of the country it's harvested amid the late summer and autumn months of the year. The remainder of the bumper crops are placed into cold storage and fed into store bins as the product slowly depletes.

Other fruits aren't capable of having a long shelf life, nor do they subject well to cold storage. Melons of all varieties are one example. They tend to be available at the market starting in late spring and when early autumn arrives, they are replaced with the harvest of orange pumpkins.

Let's enjoy a few recipes that are prepared with this super food and which are super-easy to prepare, containing the most minimal of fresh, natural ingredients.

Banana Skinny Shake Recipe

You will need the following recipe ingredients.

1/2 of a Banana; you can place it into the freezer for about 15 minutes before using and it will assist in thickening the milk.
1 Cup of Skim or 1% Milk

Dash of ground nutmeg
1/2 to 1 teaspoon of imitation rum extract (optional)
1/2 teaspoon of Vanilla

How to Prepare This Recipe

Top with 1 Tablespoon of reduced fat topping or a serving of low fat whipped cream after blending.

Blend the banana and the milk with either a mixer or a mixer stick (the long mixer that looks like a stick).

Add the ground nutmeg, rum extract and vanilla, then whisk until thick and frothy. Top with the topping and enjoy.

This Skinny Shake contains about 100 calories and it's loaded with calcium, potassium and flavor. It tastes exceptionally great with a homemade low fat, lower calorie hamburger.

Caramelized Banana Recipe

You will need sliced ripened bananas and brown sugar. Either dark or light will work.

Place the fruit into a non-stick skillet treated with butter-flavored cooking spray. When they start to break down, sprinkle with the brown sugar. Ground cinnamon as well as your favorite extracts can be added to the recipe.

Quick Diet Banana Cake Recipe

The Ingredient List

1 box of commercially sold banana cake mix
1 cup of reduced fat sour cream
1/3 cup of chopped English walnuts - or use chopped pecans or sliced almost if preferred
2 Teaspoons of imitation rum extract
2 Teaspoons of vanilla extract or imitation style if preferred
2 large mashed bananas; make sure they are fully ripened

How to Prepare This Recipe

Use the amount of water or milk as recommended on the package directions as well as the number of eggs. Omit the oil.

Pour batter into a tube pan (non-stick) and bake as directed on the package.
