Diet Beverages

Many a time, beverages have made or broke a diet plan apart. Beverages can even be responsible for an individual's overweight condition. While the individual may be enjoying a healthy diet plan based on the Food Pyramid, the addition of high-calorie beverages into the healthy daily diet can take calories over the top - and right off the Diet Cliff.

With this said, the dieter must exercise great care when choosing the beverages that they want to incorporate into their daily diet plan. While beverages which contain no calorie sugar substitutes can assist in keeping calories at a minimum, too much of a good thing may create health issues.

If you're experiencing rashes - particularly around your pets, or if you're getting sick easier, get with your allergist or doctor to discuss your use of sugar substitutes and if they might be putting your immune system at risk OR if they might be weakening your resistance to certain substances.

Low Calorie Beverage Tips & Suggestions for Dieters

Coffee - Coffee lovers can actually create a cup of coffee that contains more calories than a 100-140 calorie soda. A few spoons of sugar, a generous splash of 45-calorie cream - and suddenly that zero cup of coffee turns into 150 calories or more depending upon the amount of added sugar and cream. And rarely do Coffee Lovers stop at one cup.

I'm a Coffee Lover myself and I have a Sweet Tooth. I also enjoy cream. I plan my two cups of coffee a day for morning and evening - when I can relax and enjoy the coffee.  I have a measuring spoon in my sugar bowl and I limit my creamer, opting for the low fat varieties which contain few calories.

Cocoa - There's nothing quite like a cup of delicious, creamy cocoa on a cold day. But oh my - homemade cocoa can be loaded with calorie content. If you don't want to be concerned about going overboard amid a cocoa splurge, the 100 calorie packages of commercial cocoa make a great choice. If you prefer to make your cocoa you can keep calories and fat grams in check by using skim milk plus unsweetened powdered cocoa powder and limiting sugar. Add a dash of vanilla extract for a richer flavor without adding calories.

Tea - What a wonderful base for a tasty beverage, and tea contains zero calories. A spoon of sugar - and the dieter has a delicious brew of wonderful goodness. Green tea may also offer healthy benefits. As to 'Diet Tea', it can pose serious health risks. Keep in mind that herbs do not require FDA approval. Fatalities have been linked to diet and herbal teas. These type teas often tout rapid weight loss results and may speed up the heart rate to unsafe levels. Get your doctor's approval before having that cup of Dieter's Tea.

Water - Drinking water at meal times and saving special beverages for relaxation times can assist in keeping beverage calories under control.

Keep in mind that a regular soda isn't out of the question when dieting. Yes - if you consume a half-pack of sodas per day and exceed your calorie limit, then you're not going to lose weight. However, a soda in moderation can certainly fit into a healthy diet plan. Just be certain to allow for the calorie content.
