Calories in Turkey Dinner

How many calories in a traditional holiday meal?

Quite a few, although most entrees tend to be healthy, such as lean turkey, yams or sweet potatoes, peas, and the common white potato.

But butter, creams and sugar turns up the calorie and fat content in a hurry.

Below, we've provided calories based on the traditionally-prepared meal as well as tips for dieters searching for methods to reduce calories and fat.

Because poultry tends to be naturally low in caloric values when the skin and visible fat are removed before consumption, it makes an excellent protein choice for your diet plan.

Start adding batters prepared with cornmeal, flour, potato flakes, panko breading, bread crumbs and so forth - and the unhealthy values naturally increase. Generally, eggs or milk - or cream is used so that the batter will adhere to the food.

But where things really go raw is when the lean poultry selection is dipped into cooking oil; even opting for vegetable oils over lard or butter makes for a very unhealthy choice. And once the selection is prepared - it often gets dipped in yet another food such as gravy, sauces, cheese or dressings - and ranch appears to be quite popular.
