You Say Tomato, I Say Tomato Juice
Calories in Liquid Diets

Is a liquid diet a smart and effective method for losing unhealthy pounds?

Considering a liquid diet? If so, you may want to reconsider. Why?

Check out our comparison chart below and you'll discover something quite surprising that we hope will change your mind.

Here are just a few reasons why a liquid diet isn't the best method for losing weight.

Health Risks Associated With Liquid Dieting

- Liquid diets should be continuously monitored by a qualified doctor to ensure adequate nutritional needs of the body are being satisfied.

Do Not Fulfill the Body's Need for Chewing, Abrasive on Dental Health

- Liquid diets never last for long. The body has a natural need for chewing which must be met. If it's not, we may still feel a need to eat - or munch.

- Liquid diets are very bad for dental health. Chewing helps clean away harmful substances in the mouth - on the tongue and the teeth.

Higher in Calories Than Solid Food Diet

- As our data chart which is posted below indicates, many solid foods contain less calories than their liquid equivalent, and in many cases 3-4 times more the caloric values. However, there are many liquids which are extremely low in calories. Just like foods, their values differ - based on the main source of the liquid.

- If the base of the liquid is chiefly water rather than broth or cream, it's more likely to contain fewer calories and dietary fat grams. The negative is that this solution is not going to satisfy the appetite for a long period of time; the low calorie beverages lack satiety power.

It's difficult to fit all of the body's recommended nutrients and vitamins into a drink.

If it were that easy, patients at the hospital would be sipping down cups, glasses of mugs containing these vital elements rather than obtain them via an IV hook-up, specifically the patients who are able to eat and drink on their own.

Difficult on the Digestive System

- Most liquids lack bulk and they are very hard on the digestive system when it comes to ridding the body of harmful toxins.

Now let's view our data chart below. Why would we want to have a cup of prune juice when we can enjoy five whole prunes for almost half the caloric values?

Next, we move to grape juice - and as a note, there are many blends on the market which contain more than 155 calories per one cup serving. Instead, we can enjoy a cup of grapes and have enough calories left over to enjoy 1/2 cup of strawberries.

In some instances, the fresh fruit is overpowered by one hundred or more calories when in its juice form.

Such is the case with the peach and peach nectar. As a health note, most nectars are quite generous in caloric content.
