Examine Your Diet By Taking A Taste-Test

Go grab a handful of your favorite recipes! We're going to take a fun taste-test!

What controls the number on our scales? Basically, it's what we eat. Though our activity level influences our weight, the biggest key to controlling our weight' is the ability to 'control what we eat'.

We all have foods we like, and dislike. One of the most difficult challenges when dieting is finding foods that meet ALL three of the following:

a) foods that taste good

b) foods that are filling

c) foods that are low in fat and calories.

So have you got your favorite recipes in hand? Good! Let's begin our fun taste-test! Choose one of your great recipes - the one you fix for the old boss when it's close to performance evaluation time should do nicely. Next, prepare your famous knock-out recipe, then move on to whatever step applies.

If you chose a dessert, prepare the following recipe for your taste comparison:

Fresh Strawberries & Whipped Topping - About 75 Calories

Low Calorie Recipes - Diet Bites for Dieting Adventure!

1 cup of very red, very ripe strawberries + 1-2 packs of sugar-free sweetener + 4 Tablespoons of fat-free whipped topping

Slice the strawberries, then sprinkle with sweetener; add topping.

If you chose a veggie dish, prepare the following recipe for your taste comparison:

Potato Stir fry - About 120 calories

1 medium potato + No-calorie cooking spray + Salt & pepper + Catsup

Slice the potato into bite-sized chunks. Spray a non-stick pan with the cooking spray and allow it to heat - but not smoke. Add potato, salt and pepper. Do NOT turn. Allow the potato to cook thoroughly on one side, until golden brown. Spray the potatoes with the cooking spray, then turn and allow them to cook on the opposite side. Feel free to add garlic salt or parsley to spice them up! Enjoy with catsup.

If you chose a meat dish, prepare the following recipe for your taste comparison:

Roasted rosemary chicken breast - About 200 calories

1 medium chicken breast - feel free to use boneless, or any 'pick of the chick'  + Fresh or dried rosemary + No-stick cooking spray + Salt & Pepper

Salt and pepper the chicken and rub with rosemary. Seal it by spraying it with the no-stick cooking spray. Lay in pan and bake at 350 degrees until well done. Enjoy with fingers!

If you chose a bread recipe, prepare the following recipe for your taste comparison.

Honey Bread - About 250 calories, depending on the calories in the bread you choose. This low fat, low calorie diet recipe also requires the following ingredients: 2 small biscuits or 2 pancakes or 2 waffles, 1/8 cup of Mrs. Butterworth's light syrup, heated until warm in the microwave and no calorie refrigerated butter spray, if desired.

Dip the warm bread into warm syrup. Spray with the butter spray before dipping if desired. You can even add a little cinnamon and no-calorie sweetener to your bread if desired. This works great for those with a mega sweet tooth.

How to Take the Taste-Test:

Simply sample one bite of each recipe. Set the spoon or fork aside. Now, let's be totally honest. There is NO WAY that any of the above recipe suggestions will measure up to the taste, texture, smell and sheer delight of your homemade recipe. For example, I love fresh fruit and whipped topping, but it just can't compare to one of my homemade chocolate chip cookies. (It's so delicious that I keep the recipe in a 'lock box' - not because I don't want to share the recipe. It's so I won't be tempted to bake and eat those evil cookies. In fact, I don't remember where I hid the key.)

So what is the purpose of this taste-test?

Even though our personal recipe favorites are really boss - the other recipes are pretty tasty, too. They're also very low in fat, low in calories - and they're healthy, and filling. So, to lose weight a person has to decide, "Should I eat the super-extra tasty treat, or should I eat the low-calorie great-tasting treat so I can drop a few pounds?"

"Is it worth the small sacrifice? Or in the event of chocolate chip cookies, the great sacrifice?" Sure it is!
