Weight Gain Scenario #1 - It's the holiday season! Kitty is happy and really enjoying being with friends and family. Then it happens. Kitty's smile shatters as Aunt Scrooge nears the cider-filled punchbowl where she's standing. Aunt Scrooge's got the eyes of a hawk and the tongue of a snake. Kitty can feel it, the attack that's certain to come.
"Dear, you've put on MORE weight since I last saw you, haven't you?"
Just what Kitty needed; Aunt Scrooge's annual flogging. Kitty tosses her half-filled cup of cider into the roaring fireplace in the distance, then grabs her aunt by the head, ramming it into the punchbowl of sour cider…
With widened eyes and a deranged look attached to her face, Kitty yells out, "Have some punch, Deary! It's all you're getting for Christmas because no one likes you!"
Kitty delivers a wicked laugh as the family gathers around to watch the torrid display. Her cousin Ralph is egging her own. Kitty remembers seeing Aunt Scrooge accost him earlier, giving Ralph the same 'you're too large' routine.
Ralph yells out to Kitty, "When you're get tired, let me know and I'll take over!"
Oh my! Things really got out of hand in Scenario #1. Aunt Scrooge was cruel to Kitty, tossing her weight in front of her face like a wet soured rag. Evil; very evil. No doubt that Aunt Scrooge is a 'true' demonette. However, was Kitty's response a bit too much?
Let's take a look at Scenario #2.
Weight Gain Scenario #2 - It's the holiday season! Kitty is happy and really enjoying being with friends and family. Then it happens. Kitty's smile shatters as Aunt Scrooge nears the cider-filled punchbowl where she's standing. Aunt Scrooge's got the eyes of a hawk and the tongue of a snake. Kitty can feel it, the attack that's certain to come.
"Dear, you've put on MORE weight since I last saw you, haven't you?"
Just what Kitty needed; Aunt Scrooge's annual flogging. She gives her aunt a discerning look then attempts to change the subject, thinking that if she inflates Aunt Scrooge's ego then she may be gracious enough to drop the weight issue. However, it would have been more satisfying to ram Aunt Scrooge's head in the sour cider.
"My, but you're looking well, Aunt Scrooge. Oh, by the way your Jell-O concoction is divine. Perhaps you'll be so kind as to share the family recipe with me?"
Aunt Scrooge's mouth drops open five inches as she tries to recover from Kitty's dose of kindness. She felt a bit bad, too, because she'd pointed out Kitty's weight. As for the Christmas Tree Papaya Mold she'd created, no one else had offered a compliment. She'd seen Ralph stick his finger inside of the shaking green glob to pull out a piece of papaya, but other than that, nothing.
She graced Kitty with a smile, hoping there was time to amend her earlier insult. In a low, almost confident tone she told her, "Darling, you know you're my favorite niece?" Then, "Actually, it's a low-cal version that I rarely share. However, I'll make an exception for you."
As you can see, Kitty used a bit of psychology in dealing with her difficult aunt. A compliment goes a long way. Also, her compliment came out of the blue, totally unexpected by her aunt. Let's look at Scenario #3.

Kitty's smile shatters as Aunt Scrooge nears the cider-filled punchbowl where she's standing. Aunt Scrooge's got the eyes of a hawk and the tongue of a snake. Kitty can feel it, the attack that's certain to come.
"Dear, you've put on MORE weight since I last saw you, haven't you?"
Just what Kitty needed; Aunt Scrooge's annual flogging. Kitty recovers swiftly and eases out in a nonchalant tone, "And I think that you've put on more wrinkles since I last saw you, haven't you?"
As Scrooge stutters aimlessly, Kitty tacks on for good measure, "Have some punch, Auntie. It's your flavor, nice and sour."
Oh my. That was pretty rough. However, if Scrooge can't take it, then she shouldn't be dishing it out. Okay, last Scenario - #4.
Weight Gain Scenario #4 - It's the holiday season! Kitty is happy and really enjoying being with friends and family. Then it happens. Kitty's smile shatters as Aunt Scrooge nears the cider-filled punchbowl where she's standing. Aunt Scrooge's got the eyes of a hawk and the tongue of a snake. Kitty can feel it, the attack that's certain to come.
"Dear, you've put on MORE weight since I last saw you, haven't you?"
Just what Kitty needed; Aunt Scrooge's annual flogging. Kitty refills her cup and tells her aunt, "Yes I have, Aunt Scrooge. Nonetheless, my New Year's resolution is to lose weight and get healthy. I'm pretty excited about that."
Aunt Scrooge smiles at Kitty. "Lovely! You'll be just lovely, darling." Draping her arm around Kitty's shoulder she leads her away, telling her, "You know, I have this wonderful little Jell-O thing that I brought today - very healthy. It's green."
Kitty and Scrooge share a laugh.
As you can see, there are several ways to handle a tense moment during the holidays. If you've put on a few pounds since last year, it's your business and yours alone. However, many times friends and family will mention a weight gain, but if they truly care they will manage to broach the subject in a tactful way.
Enjoy the holidays, but begin making plans now to get healthy during the coming year. It's a great New Year's Resolution - one that remain with you for a lifetime!
