Happy Heartburn!  Signed, Your Diet

Heartburn getting the best of your diet?

Some home remedies that might help you deal with that 3-alarm tummy fire until you see your doctor....

One of the biggest culprits of heartburn and indigestion is eating late at night.  Try to consume your last meal of the day as early in the evening as possible.

From dinner until beddy-bye, enjoy beverages that are sugar free and alcohol free.  Both sugar and alcohol are big contributors to heartburn.

Tomatoes may also be the root to your heartburn woes.   It's like adding acid to acid to create more acid.

Sometimes including a meal packed with carbs for dinner will be of help.  Some items to include: beans, pastas, and rice.

On that note - DON'T reach for the butter.  Fats in foods can spur a heartburn attack.  Use your refrigerated no-calorie butter spray for your evening dining pleasure.

Eat S-L-O-W-L-Y at mealtimes, taking care to shred your food into TINY, TINY bites so they'll digest easier.  Try not to suck in air as you eat.

Ginger tea might help extinguish your inner fire.   Use 1/4 teaspoon of ground ginger per cup.  You may also find it pre-made in your more modern stores.  Even chewing on a bit of ginger may provide relief.

Avoid bottling emotions up inside of you.  Stress is one of mankind's greatest enemies.  Try to enjoy the good things in life and set those troubles on a back burner.  Believe me, they'll still be here even when you are gone.

A personal home remedy that I have used for years is Cola-Syrup which can be found in some drug stores.  You may have to look around for this product, as it's not readily available - but larger stores probably carry this product.  It is absolutely WONDERFUL for calming the tummy and works masterfully on nauseated tum-tums.  Prepare according to the directions using crushed ice.

There are so many over-the-counter ailment combatants these days, and though you may find one that works well for you, if your heartburn continues, please make an appointment with your doctor.  You may be a sufferer of Acid-Reflux.  There has been impressive progress on the Medical front in this area and the new medications may cure your heartburn.
