The Grapefruit Diet Plan Review

Written by Diet Bites

For those seeking a grapefruit diet plan that's logical, we've attached ours at the end of this independent review.

The Grapefruit Diet is a Risky, Unhealthy Method for Losing Body Fat

For information and reading purposes only. Diet Bites does NOT recommend the Grapefruit Diet Plan due to its potentially harmful health risk.

And have you ever known anyone who achieved LONG-TERM success on this diet? We haven't.

How it Works: Lose 10 Pounds in 12 Days Without Starving

This fad diet promises a loss of 10 pounds in a dozen days without starvation. Isn't that nice?  It also allows 3 meals per day with a bedtime snack. Isn't that nice?

And supposedly, the juice of the grapefruit enhances the fat burning process. So does exercise, which by the way, is part of this fad diet plan.

Let's not forget about that oh-so-important beta-carotene values found in the exotic pink grapefruit which helps to reduce the cholesterol level and build a healthy heart - as the plan states.

Too bad that any heart benefits are squashed due to low calorie food consumption, as well as bingeing on unhealthy meats for lunch.

Note: Meats are a healthy part of a balanced diet when eaten in MODERATION.

The Grapefruit Diet is intended as a jumpstart for the dieter.

We are still trying to determine if that is a jumpstart to a pre-mature heart condition OR a jumpstart to an unsuccessful diet. Again, we have never met anyone who achieved LONG-TERM success using this potentially harmful diet plan.

The Grapefruit Diet Menus, Caloric Content, Missing Food Groups

Whenever 'grapefruit' is mentioned below, the dieter has the choice of eating 1/2 a grapefruit or drinking 8 ounces of unsweetened grapefruit juice.

Breakfast Menu: grapefruit + 2 eggs prepared any way you choose + 2 slices of bacon

Lunch Menu: grapefruit + salad [greens, a tomato or two] with the dressing of your choice + all the meat one desires [meat is roasted, broiled, grilled, no batter or frying] .

Dinner Menu: grapefruit + salad with the dressing of your choice OR a red or green veggie prepared with butter/spices + serving of meat or fish + 1 cup of coffee or tea

Bedtime Snack: 1 cup of skim milk

Unless you go totally a-i-p at lunch and clean the local butcher out of business, the diet is ultra low in calories - actually, insufficiently so for daily nutrition. Although the plan states that 10 pounds can be lost in 12 days without starvation - we consider this diet a starvation diet.

For example, the breakfast menu contains less than 200 calories and is deficient in the following food groups: grains, vegetables, and dairy.

The lunch menu contains about 200 calories [with high calorie dressing] plus those consumed from the animal proteins. Most animal proteins contain about 100 calories per three ounces.

As we can see, there isn't going to be a plethora of energy values in this meal. Furthermore, it consists chieflyof proteins which are very hard on the kidneys - and for those who have kidney and urinary tract issues as well as those with hidden health conditions such as diabetes - a high-protein diet can prove lethal.

Lunch is deficient in the following food groups: dairy and grains.

The dinner menu contains about 350 calories and is deficient in the dairy and grain groups. The only dairy selection of the day is recommended at bedtime [so sorry, bone health].

The entire day is deficient in vegetables, grains and dairy.

Acidity Possibility High With the Grapefruit Diet Plan

One might assume that acidity issues stem from the consumption of grapefruit - but nothing could be further from the truth.

During the metabolic process the grapefruit - which is acid in composite, turns alkaline, thus creating a more alkaline body. It's the proteins which place the body at risk for acidity issues, including acidosis.

As to the acidity contained within the grapefruit, before metabolization it can contribute or trigger mouth sores and ulcers. In addition, it can eat away at precious enamel and once it's gone, it's gone forever.

Decrease of Metabolic Rate

Because of the types of foods recommended on this plan, in addition to the amounts - expect a decrease in metabolic rate. Here's why:

1. The human body operates on a chain-reaction mode and when one essential mineral or vitamin is absent, functioning is greatly slowed as the body attempts other, less efficient methods of processing.

2. While grapefruit is fantastic for boosting metabolism, because this plan is deficient in calories the body naturally slows down the metabolic rate. It has no idea that the individual is purposely decreasing food intake. This is the body's way of conserving precious energy necessary to sustain life.

Conclusion

Our advice? Skip those citrus mouth ulcers and stick with common sense - a diet packed with nutrition.
