Low Calorie Diet Recipe for Button Mushrooms

Begin your recipe with sliced mushrooms that are free of dark bruises. They should appear snow-white and firm to the touch.

To prepare this recipe you will need 1 small container or about 2 cups of mushroom slices. This recipe can be prepared with button mushrooms - or your favorite variety of mushrooms. If you prefer to leave the mushrooms whole, you can certainly do that.

Transfer the slices into a deep non-stick skillet that contains 1 teaspoon of olive oil. Or you can use cooking spray for zero added calories. The butter and olive oil varieties will add flavor to the dish.

As to the addition of olive oil, the caloric content is about 60 calories and it also add a nice flavor.

Cook on low heat, stirring occasionally. Add 1 teaspoon of soy sauce to the pan then salt and cracked black pepper. The mushrooms can be served at this stage but a couple more ingredients will take it up a notch.

Add a pinch of dried dill and a Tablespoon of regular sour cream - or you can use fat reduced sour cream for about 20 fewer calories.

Mushrooms & Bacon Recipe

Yes, you can enjoy bacon and lose weight too! But as with all things in life there are a few caveats: enjoy in moderation, and prepare the bacon in the microwave between moistened paper towels so that the expressed oils therein are captured, leaving a lean 25 calorie strip of bacon.

Prepare the button mushrooms as outlined above - cooking in a treated pan with non-stick spray of any variety; next add fresh chopped parsley to the pan and crumble one to two strips of bacon into the pan.

Chunks of lean cooked chicken breast can be added along with fresh baby spinach to create a lovely meal.

Add light honey mustard salad dressing, low fat ranch - or your favorite lower calorie dressing, marinade, sauce or reduced fat sour cream.
