Maintaining Your Weight Using Exercise

How to safely maintain your new weight. Utilize exercise in weight maintenance wisely.

Our cat recently proved that one can lose weight without dieting.  He was a house cat: lazy, lethargic, a hillbilly type of cat - a hound dog cat, if you will. He rarely moved, sitting on the edge of the rug, watching the flames from the fireplace lap out at him until his facial hair was singed and stinky.

That was before.  Before he discovered The Great Outdoors, that is!

The Great Outdoors turned our Lazy Puddin' Head into a sleek little tiger in no time flat - thereby proving that a little exercise will take off a lot of weight OR will  help a person to maintain their weight.

However, please keep in mind that in order to burn off even a minimal amount of calories, it takes a lot of exercise.

Exercise benefits the body through adding strength, endurance, muscle tone and it gets the old blood flowing, something our tickers definitely need.

Utilize exercise in weight maintenance wisely.

The trick is to find an activity that you will stick with for the rest of your life.  Here's a good way to accomplish that:

- First, think about some of the activities that you enjoy.

- Next, think of other activities that incorporate your favorite activity.  Example:  Teddy likes walking, so he tried hiking.  He loves hiking!

So if you enjoy horseshoes, you may love bowling.  If you enjoy cooking, you may think about taking your culinary skills out into the wild around a campfire.  You're certain to get in some activity there!

Whatever you choose - stick with it!  You may even wish to choose something like...shopping.  If necessary (I doubt it), then FORCE yourself to shop for a set amount of time.  Plan to park far out into the lot and get in some walking before you hit the floor of the shops.

Doing activities with a child opens up a huge door of opportunity!  Flying kites, running races, swinging, jumping rope, baseball, football - the list is endless!

Recently, the time of per day activity was lifted to a new recommendation.  A chief complaint was, 'Too time consuming.'  When controlling your weight via this method, that should be a great consideration because exercise, though beneficial, is indeed very time-consuming.

You may wish to combine exercise with either healthy eating or counting calories to ensure you keep your new trim shape.

Also keep in mind that your weight and metabolism will effect the number of calories burned during activity. Example: An individual shoveling snow weighs 125 pounds and will burn about 450 calories per HOUR while another individual who weighs 150 pounds will burn close to 600 calories per HOUR.

As you can see, if you plan to use this method for weight maintenance, you'll need to plan an extremely active lifestyle.  On the other hand, if you do not use this method you'll still need to incorporate exercise into your life for overall health benefits, as well as to help control your weight.
