Natural, Raw or Canned Foods for Optimum Vitamin & Mineral BenefitsIt is our opinion based on our extensive knowledge in the area of nutrition and foods that the best foods are the freshest foods. Fresh, natural and raw trump canned, dried and frozen any day of the year. They hold the most nutritional values - and unless you've been living in a dark hole under a forest tree alongside of Big Foot, you are aware that heat destroys essential vitamins and minerals found in raw foods. However - there are times when canned and other processed foods come in handy. In our situation, it takes us about 45 minutes to go to the store and return home again - and that's based solely on driving time, not the time spent shopping at the market. Before we moved here it was a fifty-plus round mile trip to the store. There was no way that our paltry budget could fit that much money into traveling into town every couple of days to restock the kitchen with fresh fruits and vegetables. Therefore, canned sure came in handy. Canned Food Still a Healthy ChoiceWe must note that although processed food destroys a lot of essentials - they are still a healthy choice and still contain vitamins and nutrients unless the following methods are attached: 1. They are packed in sugary or syrup-like liquids. 2. They contain significant amounts of sodium. 3. Added nitrates are contained in the ingredient list.
