Diet Bites Best Daily Diet Tips for Weight Loss -November 26 " The salt of the earth..." Yesterday evening just before beddy bye I started thinking about the effects of sodium on the body. There is nothing on earth that can blow a body up faster than an overdose of sodium - including the Fat Vat. Note the use of the word 'faster'. The good news is that the physical results of sodium tend to vanish within a few days after we've kissed-up too closely to Ms. Salt Shaker whereas the results of the Fat Vat have a long-term impact on physical appearance. In short, water retention is much easier to be dealt with than fat which has been stored in the fat cells. Because our bodies require no more than 1 level teaspoon of salt per day - it's ultra easy to get that amount simply by eating a normal daily diet without added salt from the shaker. Some of the biggest culprits of Sodium Overload include the following foods: canned soups, fast foods - particularly the fried food selections such as French fries and onion rings, casseroles, commercially prepared sauces that can be found in those tiny sealed packs at the local market, boxed rice-potato-macaroni type entrees at the local market, olives, pickles, chips and surprisingly - many varieties of boxed cereal. To take this a step further, let's say that you decide to have a can of soup for meal time. You're not really that hungry and after all, soup is fairly low in calories and fat. Depending upon the variety, a small can of soup can contain more than 120% of the recommended daily allowance for sodium - so you're already 20% over the RDA. If you enjoy a can for lunch and a can for dinner, expect to find a false weight gain ranging from 2 to 4 pounds on the weight scales. And it may take 2 to 4 days for the false weight gain to dissipate from the body. The following foods may be of great help in ridding the body of false weight gain due to an excess of sodium in the diet - and another perk is that these foods are all extremely healthy: - eggs (no salt please) As a note, eggs can be found in the protein food group and protein is a great motivator in ridding water from the body. It's a key reason why those carb diets work so effectively in the early stages. - melons, any variety + melons are extra low in calories - asparagus As a note, asparagus announces itself before leaving the body via the urinary track with an odd smell, so please do not be alarmed. - beets (not pickled) - apples As to the issue of salt substitutes - some individuals should not consider such without first checking with their family doctor. Light/lite salt is hefty in potassium and is not suited for all individuals.
