Fish is exceptional for dieters and can assist in peeling off those pesky pounds like nobody's business! That's the great news.

The not-so-great news is the concern for mercury which accumulates over the years in fish due to polluted waters. The longer the fish lives, the higher the mercury content tends to be. Both fresh and saltwater fish are effected by industrial pollution.

The following fish may contain high levels of a form of mercury called methyl mercury which can damage a developing human fetus: swordfish, shark, king mackerel and tilefish. Therefore if you are pregnant or nursing, be sure to get your doctor's recommendation regarding fish consumption amounts.
