Inactive Lifestyle - How to Lose Weight

Yesterday we experienced phenomenal weather, particularly for this area of Texas. Nine and a half inches of snow. Tom and I spent most of the day trying to feed the birds as best as we could. We had hundreds - if not thousands of them in our front yard. Easily - we went through about 50 pounds of bird seed. Lucky for the birds that we had loaded-up on our last trip to the feed store.

Other than feeding the birds, we were limited when it came to activity. Too cold and icy to go for a walk. Gardening was totally out of the question. Even our scarecrow was frozen to death. And have you ever noticed that whenever you get penned-in that you want to eat and eat and eat? That's the bad news. The good news is that with a little effort you can wipe out the Snack Monster in his tracks! Yes, you have the power.

Whenever you find yourself locked into a similar situation, try the following tips that will help keep the Snack Monster from knocking at your Diet Door:

Boredom. It's like the key that sticks into your ignition and starts the car. And once the car is started, it's hard to get it stopped unless one simply turns off the key. If you find that boredom is contributing to an overage of calories in your daily diet, rather than reaching for food or high calorie beverages, reach for an activity that will occupy your brain. Whether it's knitting or playing a game of Solitaire, taking your mind off of food is a guarantee in keeping the Snack Monster from trashing your daily diet and/or your weight loss plan.

Too Much Sleep. Although sleep has been connected to weight management, too much sleep may have a reverse effect. The body uses very little energy during sleep time and the metabolism virtually goes dormant. Too much sleep, particularly during your normal 'awake' hours may trigger depression.

Therefore, if you enjoy a daily nap, be sure that it's a short nap and that it doesn't lapse into a one-three hour outing. By doing such, the Sandman can get confused and may be unable to know which way he should point his pecker.

Calories Count. Opt for foods low in calories such as the following: lean meats, raw veggies, fresh or unsweetened frozen fruit, hot-air or low fat popcorn, and rice cakes.

For beverages, opt for water or skim milk whenever possible. Or enjoy your favorite zero calorie concoction.
