After all the shopping, all the waiting and all the special moments that this wonderful season brings - the big day has finally arrived.

Many houses will be filled with remnants of holiday wrapping paper, fallen icicles, and a few broken ornaments which will become dislodged amid the merry.

Traditionally speaking, this is one of the most joyous days of the year and is celebrated in diver's manners. To many, this day has special meaning and although there is much merriment surrounding this glorious day, Tom and I take time out to honor and to be thankful to the King of Kings.

For 99.9999% of us, watching our waistlines for the day is the farthest  thing from our minds. For those of us that intend to do just that, the dessert tray many presents the greatest challenge. And on that note, here are a few calories in popular holiday desserts. Calories are based on homemade versions and are estimated and of course, will vary from recipe to recipe. Calories are also based on recipes prepared with non-fat reduced products.

Carrot Cake - 500 calories per 1/16th of a cake about 700 calories if heavily iced.
Gingerbread Boys, no icing  - about 150 calories each.

Fudge with nuts  - about 100 calories per 1 inch square. Nuts add more calories but offer nutritional value. Without nuts, a 1 inch square of fudge contains about 70 calories.

Cheesecake prepared with regular cream cheese (three 8 ounce bars)  - about 500 calories per 1/12th of a cheesecake.
Pecan Pie - 1/8th of a 9-inch pie contains about 500 calories.
Russian Tea Cookies Rolled in Powdered Sugar - about 60 calories per cookie.
Chocolate Chip Cookie - about 130 calories for a medium-sized cookie.
Pumpkin Pie - contains about 315 calories for 1/8th of a 9-inch pie.
Chocolate Pie - contains about 345 calories for 1/8th of a 9-inch pie.

Cherry Pie - contains about 500 calories for 1/8th of a 9-inch pie.

Chocolate Cake contains about 380 calories for 1/12th of a 8-inch cake.

Nuts - most nuts contain about 150 to 200 calories per ounce. That works out to about:

15 pecan halves  contain about 203 calories
20 Hazelnuts (filberts) contain about 176 calories
22 almonds contain about 172 calories
14 halves of English Walnuts contain about 185 calories
6 Brazil nuts contain about 186 calories
18 whole cashew nuts contain about  165 calories
