Weight Loss Tip #781

Some really enjoyable outdoor activities that aren't too taxing include: flying a kite, a walk around your local park or beach, fossil hunting, fly fishing, canoeing in a mild body of water, raking leaves, miniature golf, and a visit to the zoo.

Weather permitting, before you strike out it is wise to take along the following before attempting outdoor activity: lip balm, gloves, sunshades with UV protection, head covering (that is not religiously related) dependant upon the activity you are ensuing, water-proofed footwear, a canteen of water, a nutritious snack, and sunscreen.  

And if you're going out into the Wild Blue Yonder, you'll need to add a compass, a good topo map, a flashlight, a small first aid kit, a buddy, coins for vending machines and pay phones, and a personal cell phone (keep in mind that your signal may not be active in low areas or when you're out of tower range).

When interacting with The Great Outdoors, make sure that your equipment is in good working order. There's nothing more embarrassing than having an inferior piece of equipment spiral into your cranky mother-in-law's face.

Acorn Squash for Your Diet - You will need: 1 medium acorn squash, 2 Tablespoons brown sugar, dash of ground cinnamon and no-calorie butter spray (fridge variety).

Wash the pretty squash then place into the microwave for about a minute on high taking care to make a slit into the squash to allow venting and prevent the squash from exploding while it heats in the microwave. Remove and cut in two. That short time in the microwave should make it easier to slice. Seed the squash halves and wash.

Next, place into a large microwave safe bowl and cover loosely with plastic wrap. Cook for about 5 minutes, or until squash reaches desired tenderness.  Test by sticking a fork into the squash but take care when removing the plastic wrap because the steam is extremely hot!  Serve warm with the butter, cinnamon and brown sugar. You can add blue or pink packets of sweetener or low calorie syrup for added sweetness.

Serves two and an entire pound of acorn squash contains only about 250 calories. This dish is filling, healthy, low calorie and very satisfying to your taste buds!
