Calories in Pasta

Written by Diet Bites

Pasta tends to get a bad rap where dieting and weight loss are concerned - an unfair bad rap. Fact is, pasta can fit into any healthy diet plan.

So how many calories in pasta?

A good rule of thumb for all types, makes and models of pasta is: 1 cup of pasta contains about 200 calories.

Note that the calorie content is based on 'naked' pasta - no butter, no sauces, no cheese, no margarine or any toppings or additions whatsoever.

That's why is so important to control the things that you want to add to your pasta...like spaghetti sauce.

Some prepared spaghetti sauces hover around 50 calories per 1/2 cup serving while others tower over 150 calories per 1/2 cup serving. Wow - just by taking a quick peep at the label we've already saved 100 calories!

To add zing and nutritional value to your pasta palate, opt for wheat-based pasta or spinach-based pasta.

Nutrition Facts: Whole Wheat Pasta

One of my favorite pasta recipes requires only two ingredients: pasta and raspberry vinaigrette which is ultra low in calories. Simply add one serving of the light salad dressing to the pasta, stir and enjoy. "Now that'sa great pasta recipe, ma-ma!"
