After Katy deposited the report index, she swiftly dismissed herself and headed towards the open door which was still bobbing back and forth due to her mishap. “Katy? Everything okay?“ Ken wanted to know. She looked awfully red for some reason. “You’re not getting sick on me, are you?“ “You do look a little washed out, Katy,“ Rich pitched in, coming over to her and giving her a thorough rake. Having both men’s eyes on her made her self-conscious. What were they doing? Calculating her level of fatness? Guessing the measurements of her….her pones? “I-I am feeling a bit unlike myself,“ she finally managed, not wanting to stay a moment longer than necessary today. She needed to get out of the building as soon as possible - before her dam broke - and it wasn‘t even 3 pm! However was she going to make it through the remainder of the day? “Katy, why don’t you get out of here - take the rest of the afternoon off?“ Ken suggested, coming over to her and steering her out of the office. “You’ve been working too hard - and it’s all my fault. Can you drive home safely or should I call someone to do it for you?“ “Oh….no, no - that won’t be necessary, Mr. Strickland. But-but I believe I will take you up on your offer. Tomorrow is going to be hectic and I want to be my best-“ “You are the best,” Rich assured, taking her by the elbow and steering her out of the office. “Now get going Katy before Ken changes his mind. You know that he can be worse than a woman when it comes to that.” “Right,” she echoed, her lips quivering in the process. Rich closed the door and told Ken in a serious tone, “I hope that she’s okay. Her face looked like it was fixing to catch on fire, didn’t it?“ “Yeah, it did,” Ken agreed. “She’ll be okay after a good day’s and night’s rest. She always is. But enough about Katy. What were you saying about this Vicky girl?” Rich narrowed his eyes at Ken, then strolled back over. Just the thought of the bumbling young woman sent the hair rising on his back. Not that he had much there - or anywhere else on his body. Fact was, she was driving him crazy. An ambitious little thing and Ken’s dilemma might be just the thing to relieve a bit of pressure until he could figure out what to do with her. She had to be the most aggressive she-devil that she’d ever encountered. “Yeah, Vicky up in filing. Works under my secretary,” Rich filled in nonchalantly. “Well what the devil does she have to do with Lily?” Ken asked rather irritably. “Everything,” Rich winked. “Even you old man, are aware that walking is a sure-cure for weight loss. Why not bring Lily to the office on a daily basis and let Vicky walk her? A couple of hours each day and before long, Lily will be shrunken down to size.” “Oh no - I’m not trusting my baby with a stranger,” Ken decided, his mind whirling, Rich‘s handsome face falling then rising as he continued, “But, it’s not a bad idea. Hey, what about this? I do trust my Katy girl. What if we do a trade-out….say, let me borrow Vicky to perform a few office functions for her while Katy walks Lily?” “You can’t know how delighted I’d be to do that for you,” Rich smiled, barely containing the amount of joy he felt on the matter. “And of course, I’ll schedule her for that appointment to the vet. She hasn’t been in a year now. My, how time flies.” Next Page
