A Weight Loss Story by Sky Taylor - Page 16

She was shocked further still when Ken told her, “And from here on out - let Vicky assume your responsibilities. Just take it easy. Concentrate on Lily. You deserve a break, kid.”

After Katy left Mr. Strickland’s office, she tried to put everything in perspective. If she could just keep her wits about her, everything had the potential to work out to her advantage. The thing that bothered her most was Vicky’s too-comfortable-looking form behind her desk.

When lunch rolled around, she decided to dial Jack. Hopefully he would be available to talk with her as she needed to feel his strength.

Jack had just stepped out of the hospital and was headed for home. Beautiful spring day, lots of birds in the air and puffy white clouds mounted against a backdrop of blue sky.

His cell rang and he cringed. Hopefully, he wasn’t being called back to emergency. It had been an exceptionally slow day - and it was days like this that he most enjoyed. Tomorrow, he’d be practicing at the office.

“Hello.”

“Jack?”

“Katy? I’ve been thinking a lot about you today,” he told her with a smile, glad to hear that sexy voice again.

“You too, Jack,” she told him. “I-I well…I’ve run into a bit of a blockade here.”

“Katy, you are reconsidering, are you?”

“No - nothing like that. My boss, he has decided to bring his dog to work and my new responsibility is taking her for walks. Which means - I can meet a bit earlier in the day now. In fact, you can set the time - as long as you don’t mind the dog, that is.”

“What about now?” Jack suggested, finding that he was anxious to see what Katy looked like. Probably had a hook nose and teeth that resembled a gar, he silently noted - wondering why he felt so curious about her.

“Now?”

“A bad time?”

“No, actually not,” she told him. “It’s lunch here and I was trying to figure out what I should eat.”

“Do you know where North Central Park is located, Katy? Near downtown-”

“I’m within walking distance!”

“Great. I’ll pick up something for us to eat and meet you and the dog there.”

“Lily’s with Mr. Strickland. I don’t have to walk her until this afternoon,” Katy explained, feeling excited about finally meeting Jack. Nice guy. Super nice guy.

“What are you wearing so I’ll know who to look for?”

“Er….a black dress like you suggested this morning,” she told him, feeling a bit self-conscious about the lace aspect. Darn Vicky and her rude tongue.

“Great. I’ll meet you there in about fifteen minutes.”  Next Page
