There was no time for Vicky to respond as Ken Strickland’s office door swung open and his German shepherd Lily pounced out, running at a full clip when she spotted Katy.

“Lily! Oh darling, how good to see you again,” she told her, Lily now at eye level, a paw on each of Katy’s shoulders.

“Wuff! Wuff!”

“Lily! Get down off of Katy before you knock her down,” Ken instructed, ambling over and physically removing the excited canine.

“Sorry, Katy,” he offered, still trying to regain control of the excited Lily.

“I’m great with dogs,” Vicky insisted. “Let me help-”

She screamed and immediately jumped backwards as Lily barked at her.

“What a good judge of character you are!” Katy laughed, delivering her jab in a teasing manner, Ken laughing with her.

“Sorry, Vicky - but Lily doesn’t like to be touched by just anyone.

In fact, I generally don’t make it a practice to allow her at the office with strangers in place. But seeing as how you’ll be assisting Katy for the next few weeks, it might be best if Lily got use to you. Just don’t touch, okay?”

“Sure, Mr. Strickland,” Vicky nodded, her face a complete mask.

But when Ken shifted his attention to Lily, she delivered a mocking glance to Katy - who was still rooted in shock due to Ken’s unexpected revelation.

What was happening here? Obviously, he was prepping Vicky for the takeover. The takeover of her job!

“Katy, please step inside my office, will ya?” Ken asked, leading the unwilling Lily away.

Katy decided it best not to toy with Vicky - not unarmed at least. Once she found out the truth, she’d fight tooth and toenail to keep her job. Darn that Rich for suggesting Vicky in the first place! Next Page
